Description

Giving my series a break for a moment... This was a challenge made to me by a guy's comment on one of my other poems... -------------- The images of what we should be haunt glossy fashion pages and pixel screens. Anorexic chicks fall from the ramps Starved bodies now bones turned into vamps. Flowing shiny hair styled by layer Hours in the sweating salon produce the player. Perfect skin blended with unseen fault Hours of costly makeup produce A goddess to exault. A captured second in beauty's time Is a thrust down standard Of what should be mine.

Thanks and I agree. Natural as our maker intended. It is only our vanity that puts us through torture. Hugs Dennis!

I disagree, to a degree, it is not our vanity that tortures us, but what we individually "think" others "think" of us that do. To be vain, one "has" excessive pride, especially in their appearance. The individual needs no further attention, boast to ego, to boost pride if he or she is actually vain. Therefore, my conclusion is vanity is not "the" problem. A person who suffers and or dies of intentional starvation is not merely vain but rather he or she is confused from "excessive thinking" for "everyone else", turning a cruel eye inward. Therefore, I think this individual suffers more from excessive self-inflicted humiliation verses excessive pride/vanity. This is a thought, I think, too much weight is placed on vanity, in that a woman may often feel bad for appearing attractive, in any way shape of form, yet desire it and then hate her self for it. Resulting in either, "I am not attractive enough, or I am too attractive" The outcome, some will starve their selves to death, while others will eat their selves to death, or others still yet will go under the knife running often-high risk with their lives to change something. How often these days, do we each individually see---- without placing "judgment"---- on strictly a physical level normal or natural women, plain women of all shapes and sizes, so on and so forth without a desire to change something about their selves individually? "We all judge, no matter who we are, if you are human, you judge. Next, who or what rather is telling each individual woman that feels this way the story that results in the desire to change. In addition, a few more questions, where did it all start? Where do we each start out? I began with a mom and a dad, how might they each have affected how I see myself, how I think about what others think or what I think they thought of me in every aspect of me? Also, when we each desire to help women feel better about them selves, As we stand up for them, (us) are we doing good by each or more harm? There is an old saying; "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Most I know personally have told me, that means what others they know think is beautiful. But what it means to me is, "I am the beholder." If I do not see beauty with in myself, it will never matter what you or anyone else says, because of my own "thoughts" in which I have no control over, and which I naturally "believe without question" to be true, will never listen to you. The solution, finally yet importantly, who is really hurting who and what should each be questioning? Just some thoughts, and thanks for sharing the poem.

Been a LOOONG time, huh!? :) Good poem, must say! But I like hot chicks! :D Ha ha! (Bony anorexic is not hot though) BUT... Images of skinny, "prefect skinned" women should have no more effect on the average girl than action hero movies or sportsmen (bulging with muscles and overflowing with masculinity) has on the average guy. These images of perfection can motivate people to better themselves, and should only cause damage to people ALREADY suffering from inferiority complexes. I'm a skinny dude - I want to be bigger and stronger. No problem in that. If I feel I NEED to be bigger and stronger, and resort to steriods, then my priorities are not right! Its not aout whats thrown in front of us - its about what we do with it... x By the way SusiQ - you on facebook!!? :)
