Description

This is a reconstruction of the Temple of Isis in Pompeii. This is what the temple would have looked liked based on research I've done using actual Roman mosiacs, sketches and illustrations. The ceremony shown above would be typical for the worship of the adopted Egyptian Goddess Isis. Worshippers would gather early in the morning and at two in the afternoon daily. All the structures and most of the textures were scratch built. In case anybody cared to know :) Built with C4D, Bryce, Poser, and Photoshop. Rendered in Bryce. Thanks for having a look. ..The boring stuff We usually think of Isis as an Egyptian goddess, but she was also worshipped by the the Romans. Trade routes to Sicilain and Egyptian ports introduced the Pompeians to worship Isis. The Romans were always very tolerant of foreign deities and the worship of Isis spread throughout the Roman Empire. She was venerated as a loving mother goddess who promoted fertility, oversaw the changing of the seasons, and healed the sick. She was also the patron of sailors. These temples were the sites of elaborate daily and annual rituals and were administered by an educated priesthood skilled in music and medicine. Isis worship was especially popular with women and with the new elite who gained wealth and prominence as the Roman empire expanded. The Temple of Isis in Pompeii was small but ornate. It was destroyed in an earthquake in A.D. 62 but was rebuilt shortly after that. The renovation was financed by a freed slave in the name of his six year old son. The Temple has a mixture of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman architectural features, often used bright colors. There were many statues in the Temple of Isis and the portico walls were covered with elaborate murals. To the left of the temple was a small roofless structure containing an underground well that held the sacred water from the Nile, which was very important in many Isis ceremonies. The front portico was removed for viewing. The large structure in the background was a theater.

Yes, hence the Pantheon. Love the detail, and thanks for explaining about the textures and the historical background. I am sure all of these details help others in their own efforts.
