Description

ABOUT DAN DARE COMIC Dan Dare is a classic British science fiction comic hero, created by illustrator Frank Hampson for the Eagle comic story Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future in 1950. Although the stories were set in the late 1990s, the dialogue and manner in which all the characters interact is reminiscent of British war films of the 1950s (it has been described as "Biggles in Space" or the British equivalent of Buck Rogers). Dan Dare was distinguished by its long, complex story lines, snappy dialogue and meticulously illustrated comic-strip artwork by Hampson and other artists, including Harold Johns, Don Harley, Bruce Cornwell, Greta Tomlinson, Frank Bellamy and Keith Watson. ABOUT THE IMAGE I know... most of you really don't know nothing about Dan Dare comic. It is one of my preferred comic. All its pages are in color in huge format and full of fantastic hardware. You must take a look at it! Try to find some images on the web! Here is a render of some of the most famous spaceships of the comic: The big one in red is the Crypt Ship, on the top right is the Deep Space Transport, the two on top left are Treen Interceptors and all the small ones are the Anastasia spaceship (the "hero ship") I find all the ships files in a VERY old Amiga FTP site (the collection was from 1990!). All the ships was in "Imagine" format (.iob), I traslate the files in .cob using some proggy and imported and texured in Bryce. On next future I will post the files for FREE download on my webiste (www.innovari.it), so stay tuned! Comments rates and suggestions are welcome :) If you are interested to buy a print of this artwork just visit my Ebay shop at: http://stores.ebay.it/NY-FORM where you wil find more movie related artworks! :)

Nice Retro-Future image. Never had a chance to read any DD but I've seen enough samples toknow the basics. Ever read Warren Ellis' MINISTRY OF SPACE? You could consider that one "Alan Moore's Dan Dare".)

Jeez! But I feel old! I remember Dan Dare and the Mekon as well as Digby - Dan's trusty side-kick! I used to slavver over the Anastasia as the ship I really, really, really wanted to fly! They featued in the EAGLE boys comic which I remember getting after it combined with 'Boy's World'. I couldn't wait till it came through the letterbox with the newspaper. Strangely, I can't remember one story-line.......Great Pic!

Nice image, Frank Bellamy one of the later artists of the strip worked and lived in Kettering, his old house (he's dead now) is about a quarter of a mile from mine, I walk past it most days, also had the privilege of having the same art teacher as he, sadly I never met him..........keep up the good work

Anastasia was a beautiful design, as i remember it. i read somewhere that the artist wanted it to be a kind of DH Mosquito in space, which is why he gave it curved elegant lines rather than pointy ones.

I used to read the comic i the late 50's as a very small boy. The artwork was superb (colour when most British comics were mono) and the stories were very scary at times. Thanks for all of your work here, it is truly reminiscent of the era.

I used to get the Eagle comics sent from England by my grandmother. One of my favorites as well. There was a short lived CGI series done either 2000 or 2001. Still looking for series on DVD. Rendering was awesome.
