Description

ABOUT FORBIDDEN PLANET Forbidden Planet is a classic 1956 science fiction film and a subsequent novelization by W.J. Stuart. The film features a number of spectacular special effects, groundbreaking use of an all-electronic music score, and the first screen appearance of the famous Robby the Robot. The film's characters and setting were inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest, though the plot is very different. Also notable is its very effective execution and use of well designed sets, props, matte paintings and soundstage scenic paintings. ABOUT THE IMAGE Forbidden Planet really change my life. I saw it when I was a child and it really scared me, but it drove me into science fiction forever. Here is my tribute to this cult movie of all time. A wonderful homage! I love it when an artist can use modern tech to improve upon the look of vintage sci-fi, while remaining true to the original vision. A classic in every sense of the word. Thanks for the trivia too.

Altarians ? and the "ID"...my memories flooding back now, that movie left it's mark on me for sure ! when Leslie Nielson wasn't playing the big CHEESE. I like how Robby the Robot made a guest appearance in this movie and left the brat behind ! top dedication for a very kool movie Cheers

Real sci-fi (especially the short story artform [imho the best form]) seems to have dissapeared from the bookshelves these days, and been supplanted by Fantasy, previously a complimentary genre. Thank you for keeping this 'Golden Age' alive with your work.

The movie was certainly the wellspring from which all modern SF films and TV sprang. And both TV series LOST IN SPACE and STAR TREK were clearly patterned after this film. The novelization by the mysterious "W.J. Stuart" was likewise the first modern movie novelization, where the writer expanded on the script, providing both unshown scenes and background material. It was also unique for being a combination of three different first-person narratives. As for this image-- FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!

Great pic! It could be an outtake from the film, one that changed my young life as well. The entire concept of an instrumentality capable of releasing the deepest, darkest beasts of its creator is the stuff of truly great sci-fi. Congrats on a fine offering.
