My 2c in this popular matter.

The terrain was made with GeoControl Demo (4096x4096).
Surfaces are terragen layers+strata+ground overlays with pic from stock.
Final render in Terragen(6000x4500), less than 4h- without sky.
Postwork: added horizon, clouds, colours+resize & sharpen (jpeg compression suck!)

The terrain looks great! There's so much detail, almost looks like something made in Maya or something (although the atmosphere and surfaces tell me it's still wonderful TG). Great surfaces, although the pink and green strata looks a little funky in the foreground, it seems to work beautifully in the background. The subtle overlay and atmosphere are what make this so realistic. BRavo!

I agree with Buzzzzz, this is such a superbe terrain that I thought at first glance that it might be some kind of hi-rez DEM. Congratulations! Surfaces and strata are super as well, with lovely lighting matching this sky picture. Kudos.
For me the surface work is the clincher, Extra Super Stuff IMO!!!
