Still from an effects shot I did at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, transforming a desert into an Antarctic scene. You can see the "before" shot of the desert at my site: http://www.venomize.com/vfx.html First, a series of photographs were shot in the desert at Red Rock Canyon, then stitched into a 3D spherical panoramic image. Once a camera move was established, those sections of the pano seen in the shot were transformed via matte painting into an Antarctic environment. 3D elements were then modeled, animated and matched into the sequence. Finally, dynamic particle snow effects and a sky replacement were implemented to pull the shot together. An HDR image assisted with the lighting of the scene.
