Description

Still trying to get use to Carrara. I had to work on the lighting a lot on this one. I needed to keep my sun to the side so I could keep my shadows, and that nice textured look, but I had to add more lighting because my mountain side was totally black, with no details what so ever. So I added three lights and turned them down and tinted them a light green color so it would give the effect that light was being bounced back into that area, and not being lit with lights. However that wasn't easy either, because I had to make sure those lights where at the right angle so they wouldn't flatten that area either. Whew! Most likely on some monitors it well still look totally black, please forgive this rookie. Thank for looking and comments welcome.

I like your texture, excellent job. With respect to the lighting, did you try using the GI render option and turning up the indirect lighting? This will often produce the affect you are looking for much more realistically than adding lights (though it does take a bit longer to render).

Lighting is 50% of an image. I like where your Sun light is located to make the shadows and give a sense of depth to the terrain.

Thank you all for your comments. I checked my render option and I can't find a GI selection. It may only be on the higher version of Carrara, I only have Basics 2. :( I have a demo of 4 on the disk but I don't know if it will let me render out. I'll have to check it out.

I'm afraid I can't give any helpful suggestions as I don't use Carrara, but the image does look great and the work really shows - it reminds me of mountains early in the morning when the sun naturally throws shadows, bringing the edges and chasms into relief. It's excellent... :)

It's beautiful!! Very good! In fact, I would say that it's excellent! Keep up working on it and you will be one of Renderosity's elders really soon!
