Bright daytime lighting is always a challenge in landscape scenes. I generally don't use a lot of GI or GR as you have done here. Sometimes a standard lighting model works better that casts longer shadows. Take at look at this desert scen I just did using standard lighting for some ideas: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1166358
The lighting is standard, not GI or GR.
