Description

Technically this is a painting w/light although that was not my initial intention for this one..I must say that after uploading and reviewing my shots I liked this one better than the other intended pics using different flash lighting. I was going for a still life technique I read about in an artical and figured I'd give it a shot...Initially I took some photos of this orange by placing it on a sheet of foamcore, and bouncing two wireless units off of a white foamcore behind the subject to act as a reflector, bouncing the flashes back to the orange in effect backlighting it while nicely illuminating the fomecore effectively creating a nice white background at the same time. I also used a tungsun light or two(minimags) for sidelighting to help illuminate the front/sides of the orange and to better show the surface texture. Most of those shots actually looked pretty good but then I figured as long as I was pretty much setup for "painting w/light", I went ahead and killed the overhead lights for a dark room, increased the shutter speed, killed the flashes, and then made some longer exposures trying various speeds, aperatures, and "painting, using the painting w/light technique as I have tried a few times before. Here is some information for this one: 6.1 MP Konica Minolta 5D w/ a Konica-Minolta 100mm 2.8 Macro. (16 bit RAW, 8.75MB, 3007*2000, 240dpi)...f2.8, 100mm focal length(this seems odd..I could swear it was not fully extended..but that's what my EXIF says..)honeycomb pattern meter, maual focus, spot focus, manual white balance set to "flash"(I am wondering...maybe tungson would have been a better choice..but it didn't look any different from Flash in Camera RAW), two mini maglights for "painting with light" during the exposure...no other light source or flashes...w/o the mini mags I would have probably tripped over my tripod because it was so very dark in there. I set my cam for two sec delay. (no remote...but delay works) Processed in Adobe Camera Raw, and PS Thanks for looking, -Peace :-)

this is what l call writing brushing painting with light...believe the over head lighting would of killed the natural colour of the orange..excellent bouncing of light .. back flash has added definition.. but for me love how the tungsten lighting how its made this orange very 3D.. superb work.. writing with light..:))
