Description

According to a legend The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were build in the 7th century B.C. by King Nebuchadnezzar not only to demonstrate his power, but to cheer up his homesick wife, Amyitis. The land she came from, though, was green, rugged and mountainous, and she found the flat, sunbaked terrain of Mesopotamia depressing. The king decided to recreate her homeland by building an artificial mountain with rooftop gardens. The gardens had a size of 100x50 meters and were about 30 meters high. They can be considered as the first botanic garden because the kings soldiers collected a huge variety of different plants from every defeated country. When ships were passing the river Euphrat, the green wall of plants that rose above the mighty walls of the city must have been a breathtaking sight. So at first the undefeatable walls of babylon and the Tower of Babel were listed among the seven wonders of the ancient world but were replaced quickly by the more impressive Hanging Gardens. Because the City was destroyed more and more during wars the german archeologist Koldewey discovered nothing more than a mound of muddy debris in 1899. So consequently historians only could speculate about the real appearance of the Gardens. There only exist a handfull inaccurate paintings or illustrations, so i decided to create my own version. completly modeled with 3ds max, textured and planted in Vue, some postwork in Photoshop Thanks very much for stopping and commenting
