Description

Mission - San Xavier del Bac South East Courtyard San Xavier is under continual restoration. Decades of dirt and soot from devotional candles lit inside the church lead to a thick, dark build-up on the walls and statues. In addition, work on the exterior walls and courtyards are also being renovated. Since air condition was not even a dream centuries ago the walls of the church are up to six feet (about 1.8 meters) thick in some places providing a degree of cooling - just bearable I might add in the summer. To repair the exterior walls the construction crew is using a recipe used by the Tohono O'odham people, which when baked in the hot Arizona sun makes the church's exterior a bright white color which helps in being able to resist the harsh desert weather. I think I read somewhere that one of the ingredients is 'cactus juice' - kinda the same thing they use in Mexico to make Tequila - turns me real white too when I drink it :-) Yet another artistic scribbling - Your comments and suggestion are very highly valued and quite deeply appreciated.
