One concern that I have about migrating to Poser 5:

Over the last several years, I have spent quite a bit of time installing many, many characters, props, poses, geometries, etc., etc. into my Poser 4 set-up.

My question is simple. Just how difficult is it going to be to relocate everything into Poser 5? Will Poser 5 provide automatic migration assistance? Or will all of the pieces/parts have to be manually re-installed?

Man, I hope not.

I was worried about exactly the same thing, till someone (Phillyrider?) told me it's possible to install both poser 4 and 5 on the same machine and 'dip' into multiple Runtime folders from poser 5. This seems to take care of any problems you might have in that department. And I'm sure you're not the only one who's in a panic over it! mac

Ok, but would want to have both on the same machine or can you afford to have both on the same machine space wise? Right now poser 4 is taking up the largest amount on my harddrive. It is almost a third of it! And I don't have everything that I want loaded into poser either yet. On my old machine almost 70% of the space on the harddrive was taken up by Poser 4. I am sure that P5 will not be any smaller and that space it will use will grow faster than a speeding bullit.....

I might be wrong, but wasn't there mention in one of the threads here, that by being able to select different runtime folders, you could store them onto CD, DVD, or an additional hard drive and just load them up as you need them. Most computers now have a CD writer with them, I've been backing up sections of my runtime folder onto different disks. If it is possible to select a runtime folder from disks and other removable storge devices, then I could use without havig to have both versions of poser on my computer. It would also save a hell of a lot of hard drive space.

Well, I for one need to clean house anyway. As much as I don't want to do it, simply because of the shear size of it all, but it's as good a time as any to do it. AND, with P5's new customizeable folder heirarchy, I wouldn't want to use any of my old runtimes anyway. -Tim

DarrenUK is correct, Poser 5 is supposed to able to access several runtime folders located in various places. All according to an extremely credible source (kupa himself) in a thread some time ago. That would mean that you can install Poser 5 in a new folder and still access all the Poser 4 stuff from Poser 5.

This has been a concern of mine, too. I've never had so much Poser stuff on my hard drive as I do now. Fortunately, I have a 40 gig drive and I've only used about a quarter of it, so far, but it just gets a little bit bigger everyday. I'd hate to have to reload everything all over again. I really don't want both versions on my computer at the same time, because it would eat up space. Gad, I have things in my Poser libraries that I don't even know are there. I keep discovering things I'd forgotten I'd installed, and there are other things I know are there, but for the life of me, I can't find them. There's so much stuff there. This is a very valid question, I think we're all concerned about. Melanie

The idea of remote Runtimes would make network seats even better if they were able to crossreference runtimes. Only one of the systems would have to be bogged down. Tom
