I have been in the habit of posting all my free content in multiple places anyway but I think there is a whole bunch of content that is just going to disappear forever. Just poof, gone when they pull the plug.
It's likely that if the site is closing, it won't be available anymore.
The article did say something about others possibly buying the site. If that happens, he new owners will manage things. How they do is anyone's guess.
All my uploads there are also available here so I don't have to worry about that. I do still go there for freebies, but it seems less and less so I must already have what I want. There is an uploader or 2 I might double check and get the rest of their inventory as back up.

I can't imagine that ShareCG would be left in the same condition as before even if any company was to acquire ShareCG. Perhaps if there is a company acquiring it, they just want to take advantage of its domain value. I would hope that in such a case, the information of all registered members would be deleted clean.
In my opinion, the site could do with an overhaul. I like a lot of the content on it, but the thumbnails are tiny and only 15 items per page without a chance to have more. The search engine is a bit overzealous, too. If someone else buys the site, they aren't buying the content. Uploaders still have full ownership of it. If a new owner messes up the site, the IP owners should be able to delete their products.

None.
The point was made elsewhere that the scope for 3D is shrinking because of AI and the increased cost of soft- and hardware. That this in turn reflects a hardware change as well, to tablets and smartphones. And that the loss of ShareCG is not a single event.
I agree that the global 3D community as we have known it in the last 25 years is indeed changing and shrinking in the face of AI. And some software packages are getting to be very expensive with subscription based payment. But there are still affordable solutions, which can produce good and sometimes really great pictures. Blender, Poser, DAZ Studio are examples (The Oscar winner FLOW was made in Blender). There are also low price modelling software out there. And the thrill and joy of creating a model or a picture from vertices and polygons remain.
The money flow is also changing I guess. Disappearing platforms, like ShareCG, leaves fewer outlets and we may have to rely on Renderosity and networks of linked sites. Personally I find Renderosity a solid source for resources but we still need others.
For my part, I do not see 'everyman 3D' disappear. One of the reasons are people like elleque, odf, 3Dream and many others, who produce and share amazing quality, like elleques beaded necklaces and outfits for LH2. I use stuff from them all and try to give credit when I do. (It would be nice if the Renderosity gallery gave the possibility to credit freebies when posting, but that is another story)
So I cross my fingers that the talented creators continue and remain an incorrigible optimist for the continued existence of accessible tools for the 3D community.
LapinDeFer, Thank you for liking my items :)
If any company to reuse the name "Share CG", would it still be an art community? It should be a company like DeviantArt that can provide apps for smartphones. In the future, online processing services that can be used with less powerful PCs or mobile OSs will become increasingly essential. I wonder couldn't Poser or Daz Studio provide an inexpensive render farm? I think there had been something like that for a long time but it was too expensive and I didn't feel like using it. Some of them for Blender are said to cost less than $1 per hour. Are those still offered for Poser or Daz Studio just because I don't know about them?

"After many years of serving the engineering and design communities through our network of websites — including EDACafe.com, GISCafe.com, MCADCafe.com, AECCafe.com, TechJobsCafe.com, and ShareCG.com — it is with deep regret that we announce the upcoming closure of all platforms due to financial challenges."
I expect that all the assets stored there will just be deleted when this closure takes place, so if there's anything anyone wants to salvage, you should get on with that.
