Subject: Looking For free watches/jewelry/purse props

kathym ( ) posted Fri, 02 February 2007 at 10:50 AM · edited Fri, 10 April 2026 at 7:36 PM

I've been trying to find some fair to good watches, jewelry and purse props - there aren't many freebies here. :(  Does anyone have some good sources where i can find 'em? I tried 3d cafe for some basic models - but their free stuff is still down (ugh). Any help would be appreciated.

Also if you have P5 there are those kind of props (except purse) on the character's clothing props library, I guess P6-P7 have also watches and rings 😉

Hi, kathym:-)

How detailed do you need (close-up, mid, distant)? And on what time-scale?

I'm in the process of learning Hexagon, so an opportunity to do a purse (which shouldn't be that difficult) would be good practise...

Cheers,
Diolma

diolma - i need something that'll look good mid- to close. I'm in no immediate hurry. If you feel up to the challenge - I know i could be patient. :) And it'd be greatly appreciated. :) :)

OK, I'll see what I can do - no promises!

I can't start tonight (it's 9:30 PM here in the UK, and I have an hour's worth of other stuff to do before going to bed), but I'll try tomorrow morning.... if I remember (I don't know the truth about AM - I try to sleep through it).

What type of purse? One of those sort-of bags with a draw-string? One like a "clutch-bag"? Other?

I'll go for a clutch-bag type, unless I hear different...
An example pic of the sort of thing you want would be useful (just don't post anything that's copyrighted)

And I'm logging off very soon to get those afore-mentioned tasks done, then "and so, to bed"..

Cheers,
Diolma

(Who REALLY hopes he can remember to check this forum early tomorrow)..

Here's the best image I could find. And sorry - its only a front view. I'm assuming (since at one time I've owned something simular) that its sort of a triangle shape on the sides. Hope this helps (and isn't too hard)

Hi, kathym:-)

That does look like a challenge!
I'll give it a try tomorrow (not too sure about the straps - I certainly won't be able to make them poseable.

Can you give some idea of the size? It looks more like what I would call a handbag than a purse, but then I'm not exactly an expert on women's accessories (being a bachelor and all..)
But then it can always be re-scaled to suit.

I've already made one attempt, at a "Coin-Purse", but I'm not happy with the result. I need to redo the main bag. The metal top and the catch (clasp? the little bent bars with balls on the end, one each side of the opening, no double-entendres intended..) are ok, but the bag itself sucks..

BTW, whatever I come up with, it (probably) won't be UV-mapped. It will, however, certainly have material groups..

Cheers,
Diolma

Hi again, kathym

OK, so I've started. (see above) rendered in Poser with some very basic materials applied..

That's a Work In Progress (aka a WIP)...

I think I've got the basics, but need more info. It's also incomplete..

The strap connected to the lock part doesn't actually attach to anywhere at the back yet, I need to know how the strap works. (I can guess, but it may not be what you want if I do that).

How should the top opening look (PLEASE don't tell me it should be a zip - I have absolutely no idea on modeling a zip, although it could probably be done with a bump/displacement map)..

I suspect that the Purse is too deep (IE OK from the front, but not from the side).

As for the shoulder/hand strap - I'll start on that tomorrow...

Cheers,
Diolma

OMG Diolma it looks perfect!!! Maybe that strap that folds over to the claps just holds it closed & it DOESN'T zip at all (i have a purse or two like that) As far as being too deep .. thats something that could be adjusted via scaling. As for the strap - it doesn't have to even be moveable - just bent enough to look as though it fits over the shoulder.

I am always overjoyed and amazed to see so many folks rise to the challenge when a Poser user asks about props and such.  I'll watch this thread myself because I think that purse is excellent!

Thanks for the praise! Made my day..

Two more questions kathym:
1 - Which version of Poser are you using?
If it's Poser 5 or later it means I can bypass texture-mapping and use Material Room .shader nodes. The pic in my previous post was done that way.

  1. Which character do you have in mind for it (if any)?
If I also have that character I can use it a a model for the strap...

Cheers,
Diolma

Glad I made you smile! Go on an bypass texture-mapping cause I'm using poser 6 and Victoria 3 or Stephanie 3 were the two characters I had in mind. :) Once again, thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Progress so far... This is with a plian texture so that the detail isn't hidden. I've cut some corners; Where the straps join to the metal parts I hvent actually cut any holes, the metal just goes through the leather...

And this is with the stock "Leather" material applied.

I hadn't read your latest post when I did the straps, so I'll re-do them tomorrow to fit V3. If I try really hard, I may be able to set a morph for Steph, too..

If you drop me a message with your e-mail address, I can start getting stuff to you so that you can check it out in your context, and I can make any neccessary alterations you need

Cheers,
Diolma
