THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: .lwo format conversion to Bryce OBJ or to 3DS

Do any of you know if it is possible and how to convert/import .lwo format (Lightwave I presume?) models to use them in Bryce?

yes, and if you don't have it, tell us the url of the model and we'll arrange something :)

I currently have Bryce 5 but not 5.5c. I've hesitated to upgrade (waiting on vs 6). Being able to import more directly from DAZ/Studio and now this additional import capability which I had not previously heard about may change my mind. Thanx! As for the url of the model ... I came across this site (http://dmi.chez.tiscali.fr/models1.html) and there are LOTS of models I am interested in there.

Just go get a copy of Accu-Trans or Explore3d they will convert for you..There are certain lwo items that Bryce will not import...

Bryce only imports models made in version 5.6 of lightwave and earlier, from memory. Newtek (makers of LW) redid the .lwo format for LW6 and I'm not sure if bryce ever got its importer updated for the newer format.

So a lot of newer .lwo models may not import directly into bryce whereas older ones should. edit - and .lwo models stored as layers or with non-frozen subd patches will also not import into bryce.

I have downloaded and used the models from that site and Bryce will import about 8 out of ten.

Good site. I downed a Volvo 850 from them and converted it to civilian LH drive for an image. Worked a treat.
