Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 May 16 5:18 am)
I've done animations two ways: (1) Poser 4 scenes imported to Cinema 4D v7 and (2) rendering within Poser 4 or Poser 6. Neither gives realtime feedback in terms of on-screen playback within the editing screens, but it seemed reasonable enough to me to set up an animation in C4D or P4/P6 then render to preview mode for playback using Windows Media Player or, more commonly for me, Quicktime Pro. Then I go back to edit the animation as needed within Poser. If you have another editing program which gives you realtime playback in the editor and that integrates easily with Poser, go for it (though I'm not aware of such a program myself). The only other suggestion I have is to use the Fast (or Box) display mode if you want realtime or near-realtime playback of blocky versions of your figures just so you can gauge whether the motion is what you want. Good luck!
Will i get realtime in previev if i try Poser6? It'll depend upon the complexity of the scene and the raw power of your graphics card, but the hardware acceleration does improve preview performance considerably, now that it's no longer entirely dependent upon your CPU. The workspace feels far less sluggish. If you're planning to render your animations using the preview engine, you probably won't notice that much of a speed boost over previous versions, but at least it looks much nicer now.

Hello, it hat been a long time i used poser while studying (and spend a lot of time in learning to deal with it). I created an own comic character in cinema 4d and imported it succesfully to poser and also creating mimicable morphtargets and expressions, but when it comes to animating, i really started feeling frustrated about the performance of poser. I was far away from realtime, and doing a sceen with more than 3 figurs in it really started to be a nightmare. This all i did on a mac g4 400mhz and poser4 with propack. Now i got a mac mini and still feel like i have to finish my short film project which i stoped nearly 2 years ago. Is there a chance to get realtime, and so handy features like collosion-detection in Poser6? or is it more practical to export it again and do the hole thing in MotionBuilder, which promisses realtime? I will render the whole film in c4d 7.33 under Mac OS 9.2.2 which means that i only could do the animating in Poser6, but have to export the bvh i do in Poser6 to import it again in Poser4 which runs under OS 9.2.2. This may sound wired? Ive got the whole scene allready lipsinced via mimic) and as far as i know poser5 or 6 scenes will not be just so simply hosted in cinema 4d (mac) via plugin like poser4 scenes do. And hosting the pz3 scene is the only way as far as i know that will keep my lipsyncing. so it wouldnt make no difference if i do the animating in Poser or Motionbuilder (except of maybe scaling problems, reboneing the character again and learning a new programm if i have to export it to Motionbuilder). What im really after is realtime while animating!!!! Will i get realtime in previev if i try Poser6? Or can anybody tell me a better way to finish my film? I really really like to do that. greetings Chiropraktiker
