From time to time, I used to render using Octane, especially the standalone, because of speed and other improvements, especially HDR LightStudio which is really fun to play with. But that was before: if I can use Poser to render, that's really great. And it'll cost me less each year, which is another great reason. And if my skin settings collection doesn't work anymore, I'll restart from scratch, as for me it's part of the fun. But I truly understand the use of external tools if it's part of your job, I can relate

I still prefer do renders in Poser without the question,I use DAZ3D but only exporting G8 or G3 to Poser and render everything in Poser,I do own props or interiors and putting them here as freebies,I'm still not sure if its worth it to sell them etc
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura

Thread: Snarly's Scripts? | Forum: Poser 12
Snarlygribbly posted at 8:37AM Wed, 04 November 2020 - #4403171
Hello,
The current state of play is this:
EZDome This is converted to Python 3, but is waiting upon a small bug fix in Poser before it can be released. Hopefully it will be ready soon.
EZSkin 3 This is also converted to Python 3, but no longer seems to produce useful results in Superfly due to the change in Cycles nodes. Consequently, Its future is uncertain. I would, however, welcome testers who could help investigate the extent of the problems to see if there might be an easy fix. Certainly, a complete rewrite isn't going to happen any time soon.
EZSkin 4 This has never been released, and its status is similar to that of EZSkin 3, i.e. we'll have to wait and see how relevant it is in the final version of Poser 12.
EZCompiler and EZIcons These tools are used by Python programmers, so won't be as well-known as some of my other scripts. Still, they are both converted to Python 3 and working fine.
The other main script that I'd like to update for Poser 12 is The Snow Machine, but it is dependent upon micropoly displacement being available. That is not yet available, but I remain hopeful that it will be eventually.
I am also looking at some of Dimension 3D's scripts. The D3D eXtended Library (XL) Manager is already converted, and ready for testing (volunteers?). The next on the list is the eXtended Shader (XS) tool, and that is only partially converted, and so not yet ready for testing.
I understand and I would like to thnak you for everything, honestly and wholeheartedly. I'm astonished and find it disturbing that the preview still can't rapidly interpret cycles-based mat setting, making the characters look white-gray... I would be interested in having them setup using one of the two others root nodes.
I've often used this: posersurface nodes setup to set the whole scene, then for a final render turn them white using the cycles-based setup.

Separate process is still needed because some of us like to work on scenes while the renderer is chugging away in the background.
I understand but still don't understand... I mean: i can render using the GPU in the background, with the checkmark unchecked. In this case, the use of the GPU doesn't get over 6-7%, meaning that it will take 15-16x more time.

@Rhia you are welcome! Here is the LF shaders. There will be a full shader MC6 and shaders for each zone so you can apply these to LH.
Thank you so much @ghostship2

working on eye shaders. Starting with V4 then I'll see about LF and Dawn. LH and Dusk should be able to use the same shaders.
Oh please... don't at me with those.... eyes... I'm in loooove :D

Oh, interesting. I had that checked. After unchecking it, the single frame render directly in Poser did use the GPU. Have not tested the multiframe methods yet.
That's kind of annoying, because I do still use Firefly as well and it improves performance there. It would be better if Superfly just ignored that setting, so I don't have to go into the general preferences each time I switch (which I am guaranteed to forget).
Rendering in a separate process was interesting at the time of 32bits, because of memory limits, for what I understand. I still think that this setting is useless in a 64bits OS, because the only limit is the free space disk, as the system swaps in case. I don't know for other OSes, but win10 can even compress parts of what is in RAM but not frequently used, to artificially increase the available memory.

Try this. It is not perfect. The reflections are too saturated especially with extreme lighting but it works for most stuff.

I cannot relax on it doing POST editing at all. The renders are ALL totally out of whack with blown out lighting. That alone makes this unusable. PERIOD. I have found NOTHING that makes it stop other than not render anything at all. When the render is done, I see it for less than a second and the damned POST FX thing takes it and screws it all up.
I've remarked that, as it's still a pre-release, you may have to launch the PostFX thingie, change twice the settings (checkmark, sliders), and then save to "Scene settings" and to "Recent Renders" to stop this from interacting with each render.

Using Poser since its version 4, too. And I don't think I will ever switch to Genesis, whatever the version, not because of the character itself but because of Daz' marketing strategy. But the main reason is that I don't see any advantages over Vic4 when that latter is ported to Karina's excellent Sasha-16. Sometimes, a few clothes need an easy management (shoulders) but that's quite fast and sinmple.

Just a little word about nvidia cards: I have a GeForce RTX 2080Ti and it works like a charm, in both modes:
And it faster in OptiX mode. BUT: i used to have an old setting that was still checked: "Separate process" render. Uncheck this if you intend to use your GPU... Don't know if it's a bug but when it's checked, it uses the GPU as well, but at max 6-7% of its speed... And for what I understand, I'm not sure it's useful with a 64bits OS...
