I'd like to add my thanks to Philemot for the fix, which got VWD working again for me in 4.10.0.107. It's good to hear that MrFiddles22 has had success with VWD in 4.10.0.123 - Any others had the same? Now 4.10.0.123 is on general release, is the advice to remove the fix, or leave it in place? I'd be happy to make a small donation to support Philemot and/or Gérald if there was an opportunity through paypal.

Hi Dan
Many thanks to you and Gérald for your work on VWD. I have used version 1 quite a lot (with animations) and while I sympathise with those who find it complicated, it is also very powerful and flexible. I have had some nice results, and some difficulties along the way, and I am still learning. I have found Gerald's videos extremely helpful. (Also Toonces "cheat sheet" in the Daz Dynamic Clothing forum).
For those about to plunge into VWD I would remind them that you say on the store page that the program is powerful and complex and you recommend trying the free trial version first.
Now a question: I have stayed with Daz v4.10 so VWD v1 continues to work. Now I have VWD v2 ready to install. Should I continue with Daz 4.10 or upgrade Daz first to 4.12? If I stay with 4.10 I can revert to VWD v1 if I have a problem with v2? But is VWD better integrated with Daz 4.12? (My graphics card is not NVidia and I think this has caused some issues with other plugins). There are a few people on here with various problems with VWD v2, and a couple who are happy - But are there many more who have no problems and so keep quiet!? Thanks again - And keep up the good work!

Hi Dan - I followed your advice (above) and your videos and was soon running VWD v2 in Daz 4.10 and 4.12 Public Beta. Thanks!
Generally all is good for me, however I have found an issue which is new to VWD v2. When I make the actor's arms invisible (because they brush the cloth during the animation and spoil the simulation) it causes the dynamic simulation to go wrong at the first frame. (See attached for what happens - It sort of shrink-wraps the actor, who is in T-pose). Static simulation is ok.
I tested this in Daz 4.12 and 4.10, and confirmed that VWD v1 does not exhibit the problem. To be sure it was the visibility I tried it "off" (problem), visibility "on" (ok), and then "off" again (problem returns).
I'm sure you have higher priorities, but it would be good if this could be fixed sometime as it is a useful technique!
Many thanks! VWD issue.JPG

Hi VWD (Gérald?) - The option you suggest seems to be labelled "Import with Obj files" rather than "Animation by obj", but it certainly fixed the problem!
Thanks so much for the excellent, rapid support!
(Where MelnOhio is getting path names which are too long, I suggest that may be fixed by unzipping directly into the suggested C:VWD location, rather than into a directory which probably has a long string of folders which build up into a long pathname.)

Hi Dan and Gérald.
I have been using V2 of VWD very successfully in Daz Beta for a while now (4.12.1.76). I see there is now a general release of 4.12.1.117 and was wondering whether you have been able to check out VWD for compatibility with that version?
Many thanks!

Sorry Gérald, not been on the forum for weeks, but have been very busy using VWD with animations in DS. I haven't liked what I have seen of strand hair. I am happy with the results I have been getting with VWD on non-strand hair, apart from it being a bit "twitchy". For VWD development: I love the power of the program. I have used it for hair, multiple layers of clothing, and for objects (eg vacuum cleaner hose), but I am a scientist rather than an artist so I am more happy than most to wrestle with it! What I would love to have is a program which is more robust, and which is more informative when things do go wrong. I have found that I get better reliability by stripping the scene right down to the components which are essential for the VWD simulation, and then merging it back into the full scene later. I also have a habit of shutting down every other application on my PC that I can, and I reboot if things are failing.
Let me know if you are still looking for testers.
Many thanks.

I love the power of VWD but hate how fragile it is - It is simply freezing on me again today while running a simple simulation. Personally, I'd rather it did what it does now but without unexplained crashes! However, I may find the new features unexpectedly useful and I wish you very good luck with your work.

My quick tests showed that the current VWD does work in 4.12.1.117, and even 4.12.2.60 (beta), but... both versions have big problems with saving /restoring DS animations, so I would only use them in a one-time session workflow, where you do not need to save/restore the animations reliably. This is a DS issue and they yave identified/acknowledged the issue. I have stayed on 4.12.0.86, and even revert to the last of the 4.11 family to get work done.
cheers, VWD3D/dan
Sorry Dan, I didn't see this for a while (I stopped checking for a reply after a week or so!). Many thanks for the information. I am always reloading VWD animation sims, so I will avoid updating Daz for now.

Hi Gérald
I'd be happy to try testing them, although if the installation or setup is complex I may have to give up!
How do I get them? I don't have an email address for you and I am not keen to post mine in public.
It's not urgent - Whenever it is convenient for you. Thanks!

Hi Gérald.
That's fine - whenever you are ready. Hope the guest house business goes smoothly.
Stay safe.

Hi Gérald
It's good to hear from you again. So sorry to hear about your eye - Hoping for the best for you.
I still use VWD all the time (animations) and would be very sad to lose the capability we have now.
I don't think I understand where you are saying you might take VWD in the future. I use Daz Studio but I am very happy manipulating meshes in Blender, either changing existing meshes or making new ones, so I don't think I want another program to do that!
I seem to be getting fewer crashes in VWD these days, (I don't know why), but that could still be improved.
For me, your English is absolutely fine. (But I hope my English is ok for you!)
Best regards

I'm surprised to hear VWD is not working properly since DS 4.14. I'm using it with DS 14.20 and I just did a static simulation and an animated simulation successfully. If anything, it seems a bit more robust than it used to. Maybe it's because I have learnt to do the simulation in a very simple scene, with simple or decimated cloth/hair, and then merge it with the rest of the scene afterwards. It does crash on me from time to time, so it would be nice if it were more robust, but it's still a wonderful tool.Hi there,
I realize that the most urgent work is to make the program compatible for its two hosts: Poser and Daz Studio.
The program is more and more directed towards Daz Studio... sorry for Poser users, but I will start by making it compatible with Daz.
I know the program is not working properly since version 4.14 of Daz Studio.
For the moment, I do not know exactly the problem which appeared since this version but I think that it is possible to use it with some changes of practices.
First, I'll try to show how to use the current version of VWD with the latest versions of Daz. Then I will modify the program to make it fully compatible.
VWD modifications for its use in Poser will come just next.
Can you say specifically what is not working correctly since DS 4.14?
Many thanks!

I'll apologise first: I haven't read back through all the history so I'm sorry if some of this has already been said, and I'm definitely not an expert in any of this and could be wrong...
I'm using VWD "v2.2" in DS 4.21.0.5 in Windows10 without any significant problems. (It falls over when I try to do impossible things with it, or if I have too many other applications open.) I think that you would be wasting your time and efforts to go back to an earlier version of DS.
In my list of plugins VWD appears as "VWD Cloth and Hair Bridge" (I checked this by disabling it, and it stopped working. Re-enabled it and it started working again).
I don't have "VWD exchange_x32" in my list of plugins because I'm using the 64 bit version.
I suggest you try removing the x32 file from your plugins folder as that seems to be upsetting DS.
Did you see Dan's video tutorial on installing? That's what I used for my installation. It's on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-DvUNKDXdk
Hope that helps

I think I must be living in a parallel universe!
I'm using VWD "v2.2" in DS 4.21.0.5 in Windows10 without any significant problems.
I don't have an nvidia graphics card - Everything is done with CPU - but that wouldn't make any difference would it?
I've attempted to upload a crude gif as evidence! (All done with VWD on a basic walk animation)...
