Subject: Poser 10 Crash after render - Is there a fix?

JenX ( ) posted Thu, 19 March 2020 at 8:22 AM · edited Mon, 09 March 2026 at 1:58 AM

Hey, all! I've been running into a problem this week where I will render an image with a basic setup, and then when I try to save the render, it will crash the program. Upon reopen, My UI will be screwed up. I have searched the forum trying to find something, but maybe I'm using the wrong key terms. Has anyone else come across this? Is there a more efficient key term I could be searching? I haven't been here in a while, so I'm not up to date on all the newness. <3

Hi Jen, have you tried deleting your preferences and then restarting poser. This may be a case of corruption.

poser 11.3 will be available on 3/30/20 so perhaps that also will fix your issue.

I'll try your suggestion! I haven't upgraded to P11 yet, but that's a next step in the future. 😀

Sadly, that didn't work :/

I don't know if I fixed the crash, HOWEVER, I did notice that I did not have IDL checked in my render settings, and it hasn't crashed once since I turned it back on. So. Here's to this post not jinxing me, LOL. I've got a lot of work to do.

I think I've found the culprit, and it has nothing to do with rendering.

It's Rendering to a specific resolution (just 1200x1200 in my case), and closing the render to save it. 😖

Just ran a Test if it might be caused due a Win Update ... but all runs smooth here using PP2014 ( Poser Pro 10 ) check if you have installed the latest update .... 10.0.5.28925 in some cases it can help already just by installing the update again replacing some files that might be corrupted. I also tried your 1200x1200 rendering size it should not be the problem.

I have the latest update installed. I have had to update windows recently, so that may be a culprit sigh I guess for now, I'll save my renders using Export>Image.

Another path you might try is to render as a single frame animation - this will automatically save the render once it's finished and may bypass whatever is causing the crash.

Thanks for the tip! For now, Extracting the render seems to be staving off a crash.

I don't know if it helps figure things out any (it's been so long since I had any issues, I forget what all the fixes are), but when it crashes, other program UI's are impacted. I have Adobe CS2 (didn't see the need to upgrade when I could afford it, and now can't afford it, LOL), and when I open Acrobat, the Menus are gone, as well. I don't know if it's a memory issue, or what :/ It's frustrating, though.

Poser 10 (and Pro 2014) crash on me as well, mainly when I'm in the material room, but always when I least expect it. :)

Since your problem affects other programs that are running, I'd agree it's most likely video drivers, or Windows update as you and others have said. Are you running Windows 10?

I am, and this isn't the most advanced rig I've ever used (It's mostly stock HP Elitebook, I just upgraded the RAM), but it gets the job done. I've found actually using the IDL instead of mapped shadows helps out a LOT as far as keeping it from crashing, and I always keep my buckets low. I'm at a "make do with what you've got" point, haha. I had just never seen this result after a crash. But, now I have a sticky note at my desk to remind me to export, not use the popup render button. :)
