It's just like musical bands.  Randomly naming a few off the top of my head:  "Atomic Kittens", "Third Eye Blind", "Pearl Jam", "Linkin Park", "Counting Crows", "30 Seconds to Mars", "Vertical Horizon", "Coldplay" . . .   I don't get any impressions.  To me, they only signify a group of musicians and their genre of music.  They don't really mean anything to me other than that.

Re the OP's original q: I think they're laughably pretentious.  Almost any artist name with "Dark", "Mage", "Hell" and so on makes me think of teenagers desperately trying to be different and falling into the trap of conforming with another peer group.  Note I said "Almost any artist name" because I'm sure there are exceptions.

Band names do form impressions for me, and generally my impression is pretty much in line with how the band sound, even if I've never heard 'em before.  Example, I knew Coldplay would be a bunch of watered down, talentless, piss poor Muse and Radiohead* ripoffs long before I heard them and I was right.  And a bunch of miserable twats, too. :D

Summary:  Artist's name, stick with something straightforward such as your member name, unless it happens to be something along the lines of DarkMageHell.  Band names, tread carefully.  In general with band names, anything ending -er is to be avoided.  They're usually tedious AOR bands. :)

  • I rather like Muse and Radiohead.

no one can ever pronounce RorrKonn is why I am changing it.
it's just a different spelling of "war con" or "war khan" which could be considered pretentious also.
being RorrKonn means WarLord.

If I just use Ravenn people will think I'm a girl.
So I thought if I put BloodStone Mage in front of it .Mage would say boy.

it's a pain to pick a name

all bands I like
Iron Maiden,Judas Priest ,Black Sabbath there names stood out.

never liked the name The Beadles ,The Who.

To be honest, I quite like RorrKonn, don't see why you want to change it, and to be honest, I like it even more now you gave a background for the spelling!

If you insist on changing it though, what I would do is look into the Gothic language and take it from there.  I say "Gothic" cause looking at your art, and some of the things you write, I'd say you're Gothic at heart.  When the word Gothic is mentioned, people probably think of vampires and stuff like that, but actaully, Goths and the styles and imagery that encompasses it, is all very real.  Gothic is real, in architecture, in people's personalities, and even in language, Gothic is a real language.

There's a massive amount of sites dedicated to the Gothic language and Gothic dictionary, but to make it easy to create a name, there's even translators that can convert Gothic to English and English to Gothic.  So all you would need to do is to create a name in English and use English to Gothic translation.  So if you want a dark and/or dangerous sounding name, here's a few examples:

  • UsQuisjan (Gothic for "Kill")
  • Ubils (Gothic for "Evil")
  • Drauhtinon (Gothic for "War")

What happens, when you type this stuff into the translator, is that sometimes it gives more than one meaning for the word.  For example, the attached image shows the results I got for "Evil", and the name I picked out above, is only one of eight possible meanings and spellings.

And once you have a word or two converted that you like, you can go even further and do what you did with your current name, and change the spelling.  For example, the name "UsQuisjan" I pointed out above, you might change it to "Uquizan" or something similar sounding.  And finally, after you have a name that you like the meaning and sound of, you can even look-up what the Gothic equivalent of those characters are, because yes, due to being a real language, Gothic also has an alphabet too, the Gothic Alphabet.

You clearly have a Gothic personality, and the art in your gallery here literally screams "Gothic".
You no doubt love Gothic imagery, and very likely Gothic architecture too (join the club) ;-)

Anyway, here's the translator if you fancy a bit of genuine Gothic name creation:

BTW, not related, and I hope RorrKonn doesn't mind, but as we have both DeathMetalDesk and Primorge in the same thread, I'd like to take the opportunity to return the rights to his "Devil Porn Theatre" back to him.  It was a nice gesture but I'll not be making use of it, so, the rights are returned to the originator, it would definitely make a cool comix or whatever.  Sorry for being OT but I'm disappearing soon and wanted to get that done with while I have the chance.  I thought it best to do it like this as that's the unusual way the rights were handed to me in the first place :-)

Whether the gesture was binding or not, I'm not sure, but if it were, the rights have been returned anyway.

Ok, back on-topic.

I know I wrote  "war con" or "war khan" had War on my brain and was thinking of spelling it WarrKonn or WarrKann.
1/2 the time I don't know if there saying roar or war anyways.
it's dangerous for me to try to have more then one thought in my head at one time.

it should have read "roar con" or "roar khan"

some times I would look at Latin versions of words.
the Goth language is a killer idea also.
but no one can pronounce them correctly either.

I like Goth just fine had a few Goth girl friends.
I'm a Alice Copper fan also one of the founding fathers of Goth.

actually WandW most call me roar or war for short.they sound so much a like 1/2 the time I'm not sure which there saying.
but if they call me buy full name they say roar khan or war khan.

very very few know my legal name

I don't get that teenager thing from your name, I think that sort of thing depends entirely on what a person has been subjected to with other names.

If I had to describe the name "RorrKonn" it sounds big and powerful, sort of half human, half machine.
And when RorrKonn speaks, I imagine he sounds like he's speaking through a vocoder.

Sounds a bit odd, but that's the impression I get from you name, and like I said, I like the name RorrKonn.

I pronounce your name as:

  • Roar, as in what a Lion does
  • Con, as in what salesmen do

Regards the three names; the easiest decision between them is that I don't like "Atomic Hell" at all, not one bit, sounds like the name of a game or something.  I suppose "Dark Sphere Mage Vengeance" isn't too bad, and I like the "Vengeance" part.  But I think the better of the three is "Bloodstone Mage Ravenn".  That was an easy one for me, because the Raven is my favourite of the species, I love Ravens, Crows etc, oh and Vultures!

But yup, out of those three, I definitely think "Bloodstone Mage Ravenn" is the best.

so if ya want original ya half to make up a word.
can they pronounce the word ?
can they remember how to spell it for google ?
will google keep asking if ya mean another word ?

initial letters XXR,XCR,CCR,CC etc etc will all ready stand for something else
n this problem n that problem etc etc

so my conclusion is there's only wrong answers.

Actually, you're better off with a name that Google needs confirmation on, because that way it is bound to be attributed to you in their mechanisms.  Then in the future if other start using it, you have a head-start.  But that's why I suggested creating a name based on Gothic.  The chances of someone having it are a lot slimmer than using English terms, and on top of that, you can always change something to sound better or be easier to pronounce.

In the future, is someone asks, what's with the name, you just tel 'em, it's based on whatever word (or words) from the Gothic language, and that you changed it into a form that was easier to pronounce and spell.  You'd not only have a unique name, it would be a name that genuinely stands for something, and probably something that gets people curious.

All the obvious names have been taken long ago and done to death.

RorrKonn ( ) posted Thu, 12 March 2015 at 3:23 PM · edited Thu, 12 March 2015 at 3:25 PM

could ya explain  ?

if ya google RorrKonn.google is always asking did ya mean rorikon. which is a Japanese word that has nothing to do with RorrKonn what so ever.

and I think google took all .jpgs down related to RorrKonn cause of the word rorikon .

so made up words can cause unexpected problems also.

as over used as Chaos etc etc is it wouldn't cause me this problem .

Google records everything, it's what they're about, so if you search for something and it's not something they know about it will ask you, "Did you mean this?"

If uou clicked yes and it was a word already in use, then there could be literally thousands of websites pop up and you would be on the end of it because you're the newest addition.  On the other hand, if you have aname Google isn't aware of and you continue with your new name, Google will eventually learn that it;s a name and it will no doubt attribute that name to sites you click on (because it is none the wiser).

Lets say you called yourself "MrRebelArtist", and you also had a websitwe or blog with that name.  Eventually Google's bots will find your site or blog, and when you search for "MrRebelArtist" and it lists your website, guess who's gonna come first in the search?

You are, cause your site or blog is the only "MrRebelArtist" it knows.  If you then click on your own site in the result (and perhaps get some of your mates to do the same after a Google search), Googe will start to see a pattern and soon attribute your site as a popular or only site for that name.  From then on, if others start to use your name as well, you're still gonna come first in the search and Google won't keep asking people "Do you mea this?".  Google only does that until it's aware of something, I assume so anyway.

I'm not saying that's exactly how it works, but it stands to reason it must work something like that, at least to some extent.

RorrKonn ( ) posted Thu, 12 March 2015 at 6:17 PM

pumeco : that is how I was thinking when I spelled RorrKonn that way and it would be great if it did work that way

ya would think a name that's been on the english web longer then rorikon and has over 40 pages would get president but NO.

it's a popularity contest since more people search rorikon then RorrKonn.

if more people searched RorrKonn .then google would ask rorikon searchers if they ment RorrKonn.

I don't get why you're so hung-up about the way people pronounce RorrKonn!
It's one of those names that can only be pronounced one way when you read it:

  • Rorr
  • Roar
  • Ror
  • Konn
  • Conn
  • Kon
  • Con

... all sound the same, so there's only one way to pronounce them despite their different spellings.  The only difference between people is accent, people will speak the name slightly different due to accent variations, but even then, they're still saying "RorrKonn".  I can't imagine anyone reading it as "WarKhan", but I suppose some might sound like that verbally if they have trouble with English phonetics or whatever they're called, or English is not their native language.

Before I chose a name, I'd make sure that I could get a top level domain with that name, like .com, .net, and .org -- preferably all three -- because if you can't, you'll always lose in the search engine battle to that website. Then, of course, I'd buy the domain names, because nothing stays available forever. Unfortunately, domain name ownership is a bit like an albatross. The first year or so is usually pretty cheap, and then after that, it can get expensive ($20 a year, every single year forever, so if you have all three TLDs, $60 or more every year) -- and even more so, if you don't want your personal name and details to be viewable to everyone who types in a whois.

But if you want to be searchable -- and to land at the top of the search -- having a TLD (with a site and some content on it) is one way to do it. TLDs get priority in just about every search engine.
