Subject: Differnce between Carrara1.1 and 2?

BazC ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 2:33 PM ยท edited Thu, 28 May 2026 at 2:24 AM

I've just got Carrara1.1 from Macuser cover disk, I haven't installed it yet but I know it has a good renderer. Eovia are offering an upgrade from this free version to 2 for 99! A very good deal, but my question is what's the difference between the two? Version 2 will run on OSX which is a big plus for me but what else is better in version 2? I'm mainly interested in the renderer since I use Wings for modelling and I understand Carrara's modeller is a bit limited. Thanks in advance! - Baz

I've tried Amapi, several versions under OS9 and X and they're all unstable or slow, so how well does Carrara run on Mac, particularly version 2 under OSX? - thanks again! - Baz

Version 2 of Carrara is waaaaaaaaaaay better than v1 which was a little buggy. Carrara2 is very stable on a Mac, both OS9 & X. Carrara3 is solid on OSX. Also, the Carrara3 modeler is pretty robust now. Amapi7 on OSX now, finally, pretty stable. I still save very frequently though.

Not only is version 2 more stable, it has additional features, like bones and global illumination. Get it, then upgrade to 3; or go straight to three. The beta is terrific -- the real thing should be great!

Carrara 2.0 saw a big improvement on it's rendering capabilities, so if you are looking for render quality 2.0 is far better. Now 3.0 is outstanding in every aspect. To me they finally got it right on 3.0. I guess 3 is the charm. it has improvements on every aspect of the application. It has matured in a very comprehensive 3-D package. I just got the beta last Friday and spend a bunch of time checking it out, I must say I am pleasantly surprised and it has exceeded my expectations.

I've been running Carrara 2 on a 400mhz G4 (OSX) for some time now & it runs great. I'm now running the Carrara 3 beta, it is much faster & has infinitly better rendering speeds. Good luck, youll love it.

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?
