The Hound of Mons
World War I spawned a rich folklore from the men in the trenches…
1914 – One of the first major battles of the war, the Battle of Mons pitted men of the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) against a much larger German force. Although forced to retreat, the British inflicted disproportionate casualties against their German adversaries in vicious fighting. The battle and the later carnage of trench warfare gave rise to the legend of a phantom Frankenstein’s monster of a hound, allegedly created by a German doctor who placed the brain of a madman into the body of a giant hound, a monster that now roamed no-man’s land, killing soldiers of both sides.
I was inspired to create this image from my longtime interest in military history and historical myths. I created this image in DAZ studio with some post work in Photoshop. The overall time required to create the image was approximately 12 hours.
