The Renderosity Gallery of the Week for March 21, 2016, is the

Blender3D Gallery

Blender3D has a long an interesting history. Originally built as an in-house 3D application, but when the company that built it went out of business, Ton Roosendaal decided that it should be developed as a free, open-source application and worked diligently to raise the funds to purchase Blender. The community outpouring of funds was amazing and, today, that community is thriving and growing.

Blender3D is THE application for the everyday 3D artist who can't afford thousands of dollars for the high-end applications. The Blender Foundation has slowly, but steadily, built the application so that it is now being used by beginner and pro level artists alike. Ton Roosendaal should get a medal.

Renderosity artists have long had a strong interest in Blender3D. A quick look through the Blender3D gallery at Renderosity.com will convince you of that fact. I just love this gallery. Perhaps not all of the images are as polished as they could be, but the great variety and volume of work being done using Blender3D is inspiring.

If you are interested in learning more about Blender3D visit the Blender Foundation homepage. The application, currently in version 2.77 is entirely free. The community is strong and willing to help out beginners and pros alike. Renderosity's Blender3D forum, run by Lobo3433, is worth a visit as well.
