I just watched a wonderful new animated short film, Duet, which was hand-drawn by renowned animator Glen Keane, for Google's Advanced Technology and Projects Group (ATAP). If the name doesn't strike you, Glen Keane, the self-described 'actor with a pencil,' is responsible for bringing to life such Disney animation characters as Aladdin, Ariel, the Beast, Pocahontas, Tarzan, and Rapunzel.
Â

Â
Produced by ATAP, Glen Keane's short film, Duet, is intended to be an interactive mobile experience to be released later this year, but Glen unveiled the 'theatrical' version to attendees of the Google I/O conference in San Francisco last week.
Â

Â
Duet is a fantastic piece that tells the story of Tosh and Mia, showing us how they grow and mature parallel to each other, only to ultimately unite in the end. With its beautiful flowing lines, minimal coloring, and clever but smooth transitions, Duet reminded me just how much I love hand-drawn animation. It will be very interesting to see how Duet is implemented in an interactive way for mobile devices later this year.

Please check out Glen Keane's latest work, Duet, and be sure to check out the rest of the ATAP presentation at Google I/O 2014 (which includes a behind the scenes look at Duet), below...
