Miwi (aka Michael Wischniewski) is a long-time member of the Renderosity artist community having joined in 2000. That's 14 years of sharing his work with other Renderosity artists. He's uploaded over 1,300 images and has received over 120,000 views. He works primarily with BRYCE in the fantasy and abstract styles.

Renderosity is very proud that Miwi was chosen to be "Artist of the Month" for April, 2015. His work is so whimsical, while at the same time very detailed indicating that a lot of time went in to the creation of each image he has created. Miwi's use of color is also spectacular. His colors instantly create a mood or feeling around a particular image.

Miwi graciously consented to be interviewed and his answers are fun, but clear and considered. Sounds just like his art!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is "Miwi"?

Hello, I’m miwi the Renderosity member with the black unicorn as Avatar. I am a Member since September 2000 and specialized myself in Fantasy and Fractal Images. My real name is Michael Wischniewski and I live in Germany, Wuppertal, where I have worked for over 40 years for a pharmaceutical company as research scientist. But now I’m retired and my children are all grown up already, I even have my first grandchild.

How long have you been involved in digital art?

30 years ago I started with computer graphics and am now enjoying my retirement and pass my time with gardening, my family and creating new images and stories.

What software is currently in your digital toolset and why?

For creating new graphics I usually use the programs like Bryce, Photoshop, Ultrafractal and Groboto. I appreciate the easy handling of the programs and how I can transpose the ideas I have for my pictures. The first programs I’ve worked with were Photoshop, TrueSpace, Bryce later came Painter, Poser, DAZ 3D, Ultrafractal and XD. I appreciated the good and easy handling of the programs. Poser and DAZ 3D I only use to translate the Files into obj Files. And since I have the time, to deal with several other programs, I am now trying myself on DAZ3D and Poser. But I still prefer Bryce.

My workstation is an AMD Phenom II x 4 955 3.2GHz processor 8 GB of RAM and two 2TB Harddreives running Windows 7 Professional.

Can you tell us a bit about your creative process, and are there any workflow tips you might wish to provide?

The Fantasy section is the subject I can identify myself most. As child, I already liked The Mists of Avalon and other fantasy Books. The affection didn’t change, it just became manifold. Mythology, Science Fiction and Horror and every related genre of Fantasy keeps me fascinated. A World within a world with other creatures, history and so on is a very catchy to my mind. A really good story draws a picture in your imagination and a the question “how it would be to live there?”

My own fantasy gives me enough space to arrange my ideas.

     "Backlight Gegenlicht II"                                                           "In Danger"

One of the images in your gallery, "Backlight - Gegenlicht II", has the most views/comments of any images in your gallery. Can you tell us a little bit about how you created this striking image?

The Image backlight emerged from looking at older photos. The thought came up to try something similar in Bryce.

Who are some of your favorite artists and vendors at Renderosity?

My favorite vendors are 1971s for his fantastic models and nursoda for Brulba, Koit and many other beautiful figures. The artists at the Renderosity I like most are Wolfenshire, Egzariuf, byteline, Soffy, eegdog, drifterlee, Hendesse, Juliette.Gribnau to name just a few. My favored section is gallery "what's new" Bryce, Photos and fractal.

How has being a member of Renderosity contributed to your growth as an artist?

Renderosity Contributed me a lot on my way as I could buy a lot of models for my art, and see the work of other digital artists. I would suggest, in order improving Renderosity, for prime members, to leave the choice of 10 Images á 500kb, or full resolution up to 5MB to publish. In addition I would like to see more sales for prime members.

Can you give us any hints as to what you may be currently working on?

At the moment, I am working on a picture book for my granddaughter, with the Character of nursoda and Models of 1971s.
