Sander, who goes by 2nd_World, creates virtual models with real-life details for the customers in his Renderosity store.
“I chose this vendor name because I like to develop 3D models that can or do exist in the ‘real world,’” and turn them into realistic models for our 3D world,” he said. “I always try to give my models a high level of detail, but keep the amount of polygons and texture MB's as low as possible.”
In an “Artist Insider” from 2014, 2nd_World shared that he has always had a creative streak that dates back to his years in culinary school.
He never worked as a chef, but one of the best choices he made was learning how to use Poser.
“Finally I have the job I really like, being creative, building the things I like and playing around,” he said from his home in the Netherlands, where he creates 3D models for Poser.
Here’s more about 2nd_World.
How long have you been creating digital art and why did you start?
2nd_World: About seven years ago, I learned about Poser and played around with a trial of a very old Poser version. I loved it from the first moment, but didn't like the limited amount of models included. I started to build some simple 3D models for my scenes like a wall or a table, but it didn't take long before the models became more complex.
One year and a lot of modeling later, I felt the quality of my models had became high enough, and this is when I started selling as vendor 2nd_World. My first models aren't available anymore but they looked quite nice, if I may say so myself.
What inspires your creations?
2nd_World: Well I can get inspired just about everywhere, I don't really stick to one theme. If I see a car or a building or a piece of furniture, I sometimes think, “Hey, I can make something like that.”
And then I add it to my ever growing list of things to make, which is quite long.
A lot of my models and scenes are designed by me and don't exist in real life. But, most of the time, they are inspired by examples I've found on the internet. And everything I make should be able to exist in real life too.
What is your favorite thing to design?
2nd_World: Well, I think the technical stuff, with a lot of movable parts and things that really work. I really like to make complete scenes too, although they take a lot of time to make of course.
What's your favorite thing to have created?
2nd_World: I think that has to be the Aerocopter EC135. It's based on a real existing helicopter model and I really like that one because of all the details in the cockpit and all the working parts.
What brought you to Renderosity? And how has Renderosity been for you both as an artist and a vendor?
2nd_World: Right after I bought by first Poser version, I joined Renderosity as a customer. Some time later when my own models had become good enough, I started as vendor 2nd_World. The first few years I had a normal job next to Renderosity, but for about three and a half years Renderosity is my only source of income, so it is very important for me.
I'm very happy with Renderosity as a business partner, the communication is good and open. I have to say I am very happy about the way my hobby has become my occupation, and this has definitely been made possible thanks to the Renderosity community. So thank you everyone!
