Comic Highlight - Drunequest by Dann-O

Dann-O, what is the inspiration for your comic strip?

The inspiration for Drunequest came from a comic my daughter was given. It was a reprint of an old Donald Duck comic. It was old because it was not sugar-coated, it was a bit dark and had gangsters and things in it - and it also had different animal characters. I liked it so that got me thinking.

"Runequest" is an old tabletop roleplaying game set in ancient times (think ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome) and they did have an odd habit of making some anthromorphic characters like ducks and baboons (I have not played it since the 90's). So I played for a while way back in the 1980's and we called it "Doomquest" due to the odds of survival. The name was "Runequest" and one of my friends got it mixed and called it "Drunequest".

Overview: the story is basically Bernie the Duck's story, his rise to prominence and power through unusual skills and dumb luck. It's sort of Henry the Fifth meets the Big Lebowski. Stella will continue to play a big role too (I don't think she is in the comic yet). She is a sphinx. I always wanted to see a sphinx character that told riddles so I made one. She is probably the most ambitious character of them all and it took quite a bit of effort to model and rig it.

Dann-O has uploaded a picture of the modeling and rigging he uses to create his comic strip. View it here.

Well a new week is upon us. I had to send the rendo boy suit to the cleaners man did I sweat up a storm in it, and worse yet was the after effect of those refried beans I ate. Who turn is it next for the suit?

Ah, those 'toons get better every week, I tell ya. These days a week doesn't go by without me looking at the Comix.

I also enjoy to see these weekly toons much. From my point of view we could need some artists more which makes us smile ;-)

Welcome aboard Dann-O - sorry you got conned into wearing that dumb renderboy suit - in the future, the pat answer is "No no - Anterior said he wanted to wear it again - don't disappoint him!"

Hey! Leave me out of the Renderboy suit controversy! True, I may have brought the whole subject up in the first place but that doesn't mean that I have Well. Hmmm. Actually I guess it does. Never mind.
