September 2013 Artist of the Month - RGUS
September 2, 2013 1:52 am
Each month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... September's AOM is RGUS!
Who is 'RGUS' ?
He's an old bloke in New Zealand... working as a structural draftsman during the day in structural engineering drawings on computer screens... by night and weekends he moves over to the world of fantasy and realistic rendering.
How long now have you been working in digital art?
A very long time by today's standards... look at my gallery, the first image is about when I sarted.
Do you have any traditional art experience?
Nope... but I look a lot at the galleries, the best teacher is looking at other peoples' work.
What are you currently working on?
Believe it or not... A German girl in uniform with a bomb in her hand... but, seriously... I get asked to do so many commissions and images for people, I just can't decide what to start on next.
Who, or what, inspires you?
So many great artist... Fabiana, Twingo, oh... just so many... even the first time poster to the gallery gives me inspiration, they create a view of fantasy that I may not have explored.
What software is in your digital toolset aside from Poser, and why?
Of course Poser Pro (64bit) and just recently Octane Renderer, the firefly just doesn't do it for me anymore.
What do you enjoy about Poser?
It's the interface to fantasy land... it's so flexible, it's so responsive, and these days quite forgiving when you muck something up.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
None and all... it's a living series of experiences with packs, characters and textures. My image "Summer" has the highest views and ratings... I really should do this image again with what I've learnt to date, it was done so long ago, but still holds as the milestone to me and a lot of people.
Do you have any tips you would be willing to share on the software you use?
Tips? Hmmmm... as I've always said... with Poser, spin the lights, rotate the camera and play, play, play... in every scene there is that one perfect frame.
How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
It's helped immeasurably, I've met so, so many people that have come and gone, fallen in and out of love with me and have been so generous with their time and product efforts.
Do you have any parting comments, or advice for other artists?
Make sure your bank manager understands your addiction. I guess the best advice is... don't expect every image that you do will be a masterpiece, be admired and get you on the charts. If you love what you do, have the time and dedication to apply to Poser... the images will come naturally. You know... best thing about Poser... is getting lost in yourself and that elusive image sitting in the screen somewhere, you will find that scene, just takes a little practice and time.

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.
Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
