This book rocks! I am newer to Poser6, since I had used Poser4 and jumped to Poser6, bypassing Poser5. I was not that familar with the extras you get with it, like the Material Room, Face Room, etc.. This book shows you in laymens terms exactly how to do what you need to do in order to work in these areas.
There are some tutorials out there that I could not understand, as they were written for someone who has some knowledge of "how to..." before you even begin. But this book takes you step by step through what is needed to achieve what you want. It has pictures showing you the steps along with instructions on those how to's.
For example, even the littlest things like undocking the menu, and expanding it to show more then one column of items in, say, "figures." I never knew you could do that! My library is long, so this will really help save some time looking for things in each section.
I had even heard about multiple runtimes, but never could figure it out. This book shows you how!
Included are step by step instructions on how to bring your own face into the Material Room. This book makes it easier to understand exactly how to do this. It goes into what you need to do in Photoshop, PSP, or any other imaging editor for pictures, along with showing you how to bring it into the Face Room, and applying it to your figure.
There is so much in this book, that it would take pages and pages to show you all that you get with it. I am listing below the chapters in the book, note that there are tutorials within each chapter:
The accompanying Cd-Rom includes:
Wow! That is a lot of stuff you get with this book.
These authers took the time to explain it, so that even a beginner could understand it. I have to say this book is well worth it if you want to learn all the secrets in Poser6. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

Oh, Sandy, what wonderful comments! Thank you so much! I wanted to pop in also and thank the community for receiving the book so well. Audre and I worked very hard on it, and hoped that it would be helpful to as many people as possible. We would also like to second the request to have readers of the book post links to images that the book helped them create!!! 8-) Also a heads up for an upcoming contest ... I will announce the contest when it's ready to go. The "Show Me Your Ugliest Render" contest will be showing up shortly, and first prize is a copy of "Practical Poser 6" autographed by "yours truly." Could you (or someone who owns the book) tell me if there are chapters (or sub-chapters) that delve into things such as "IBL Lighting", "Occlusion", "Atmosphere" (or faking volumetrics), "Advanced Material Room Settings and Features", "Dynamic Hair and Clothes" ? Oh, and last CERTAINLY NOT least, are there advanced topics on Animation and the graph editor? Thanks! In any case, this seems to be one of the better Poser books created until this point. -Tim
It has a tutorial in chapter 5 for using photos and image-based lighting, creating and placing the image-based light. Chapter 7 has basic steps for dynamic hair and a tutorial on creating a fur coat and feathered quill pen. Chapter 8 covers dynamic clothes both creation and saving with tutorials. Chapter 9 goes through your materials room both simple and advanced explaining nodes and how to use them with tutorial. Hope this answers some of your questions timoteo1 Sandy
