Description

"Myth?" Coron called quietly into the room, "Are you there?" "I'm here," Myth said from her bedroom. She was sitting down, looking out the open window looking at the street below. A breeze brushed against her long white hair."You can come in." Coron was Myth's brother. He was tall with light blue hair. He had strong green eyes. What once were kind eyes, had grown cold and empty from harsh life in the city. "A man came here asking for you. I told him that you were away. He asked me to give you this," He held out a necklace. It had a large blue pendulum hanging from a simple chain. Intrigued by the strange gift, Myth got up and took it from his hand. "Do you think it's safe to wear?" She asked. "I don't know. You know more about magic than I do. I never touched the stuff. You know me, physical battle is my style." "Well, it looks innocent enough. I wonder who that man is," she asked while putting the necklace on. "I can ask around if you want. My last student just left so I have some free time on my hands. I don't have to have that sword made until next month." Coron was a weapon smith, as well as a teacher in art of combat. She thought he was quite amazing. At the age of twenty he was a master of almost all techniques. Myth was lucky to have a brother like him. He had saved her life on more than one occasion. He was the only reason why she wasn't still working as a maid or in some factory. "Also, I got this message in the mail today. We are invited to celebrate Mable's hundred and fifty sixth birthday today." "Do I have to go?" Myth whined. Myth may have been older than her brother, but she didn't care. Mable was a plump old woman with thin gray hair who loved to talk. She would sit there for hours talking about anything, the latest gossip, the bird that flew by her window, her cat named Henry, her late husband. It was all boring, and to make matters worse, her house smelled of stale air. "I'm afraid that I have to insist on this one. You know how much she has helped me out." "So you go to her party then. I don't see why I have to go as well." Myth retorted. "Because she adores you," Coron replied. "That's because I just sit there, completely silent, while she prattles on," Myth told him, "All I have to do is nod my head every once in a while and she is happy. There will be plenty of people there to nod there heads instead of me. I don't think I'm needed." "Whether or not you're needed is not the point," Coron glared. Myth hated his glares. It made her feel small. "The point is that it's polite to show up. You wan't to be polite don't you?" "Stop talking to me as if i'm a child," Myth glared back. "Well then stop acting like one." She sighed. There was only one way to stop the argument that she hated so much. "Fine, I'll go." This is the beginning to my story. It is really just a rough draft though. My new computer doesn't have spellcheck or anything like that, so there are probably errors in there somewhere. Feel free to give me any criticism, good or bad. If you think there is anything it needs, let me know.

yes, a fine start. You set the story 'in medias res', in the middle of things...we sense full characters, a long back-story (which took place before we came) and we feel your characters as real with complex stories to tell. I'm looking forward to more. And one gets the sense that there may be some revelation at hand with Mable: Who knows...that's the magic of storytelling (and it's all in your hands!)...And I agree the image suits the tale very well.
