The Miss Digital World Contest was started in 2003. It was the creation of Franz Cerami who wanted to search for a contemporary ideal of beauty represented through virtual reality. He likened his search to other eras where Greta Garbo stood for the "ethereal and enigmatic beauty in the 1920s" as did others in different periods. Since the contest started in 2003, it has been covered by newspapers and magazines across the world from the MalditioWeekEnd of Mexico on November 7, 2003 to MyTech in Italy in October 2006. In the United States it appeared in Vfx World on December 14, 2005. It has, also, been highlighted on television stations such as CNN. The digital models that are created are used to make a calendar; this year it is The Miss Digital World Calendar for 2007 which can be purchased from the Renderosity Marketplace for only $14.95. Renderosity's own Lillian Hawkins was one of the members of the three man jury that decided on the three top winners of this year's contest.
The calendar is printed on high quality paper in tri-colors (black, white, and shades of blue). There are twelve digital models on the pages and quotes from the artists about their visions of beauty. If you want to see some sample pages, you can see them on Renderosity's Marketplace. The winners this year all were from Europe. The first place winner was Mario Calamita from Italy. His 'Rosity name is GreyMarius and one can easily find his home page.
The second place winner was Lara Guffanti from Italy. Her 'Rosity name is Aralt3, and one can also find her home page.
The third place winner was Kenneth Nilsen from Norway. His 'Rosity name is Wiseman2000, and one can find his home page.
More of their work, as well as a video, can be seen on the winners' page. Many other Renderosity artists took part in the contest. The semi-finalists' work can also be seen. There was a lot of interesting work submitted and the choice of finalists was hard.
