Of The Month [AOM] ... January's
AOM is frankman!
We congratulate frankman for an outstanding collection of works in the 2D Gallery!
Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is 'frankman' ?
First, you'll have to excuse my “superb” english… And then I want to thank you for me becoming the AOM. I was totally surprised and it’s really cool!
Ok, in “real life” my name is Frank Moorth. I am 45 years old and I’m living and working as an IT-System-Administrator in the north of Germany. Creating art for me is a good balance to the profession.
I got married 15 years ago and 14 years ago I bacame a father of a daughter.
How long have you been creating art?
I have been creating art, or better, I have been trying to create art, as long as I can remember, but I still practice.
Did you start out with pencil?
Yes, I did. And I worked with pencil for a long time. I have often tried to paint with color, but it don’t work for me. So, I had to wait for someone to invent payable Personal Computers…
When did you start dabbling in digital art?
In the 1980's I got my first Home Computer, an Atari 800XL. With that “machine” I did my first “digital art.” Together with a friend, I made a program, in the programming language basic, that outlined a “NINJA.” I think we typed for two days. The Program did nothing else but “drawing” this Ninja, in a resolution of 320x200 pixel. It looked horrible and we were not even able to print it out, because we didn't have a printer, nor did we know how to program that…
Then in the 1990's I got my first computer with a graphic UI and
mouse. An Amiga 500. That whas the time, I think, I really was
started to create digital Art. Over the years I got PCs and I tried
several different softwares. Started with paint, CorelDraw, Gimp,
3D Studio, and so on.
Do you have any formal art education?
Until last year, I had no art education. In February 2014 I started a distance learning. I am trying to become a Graphic Designer. So, maybe one day I'll know what I’m doing…Who knows what that is sometimes good for?!
What are you currently working on?
There is nothing special at the moment. I try to work a little more in 3ds Max, but Photoshop runs almost every day. I don’t plan my work.
Who, or what, inspires you?
There are so many different inspriations everywhere. Sometimes I see a good movie with great pictures, or I walk through nature with my dog, or see good pictures on the internet, e.g here on Renderosity, and so on. It always depends on how my mood is.
What programs might we find in your digital toolset?
On my computer you will find: Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Autodesk 3dsMax, Mudbox, SketchBook…
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
I don’t know. I have no favourite. I think the last work is, in most cases, the best. Here some of my works I maybe like a bit more than the others.
How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
The Feedback from people all around the world is great. And to see so many different works from so many different people is stunning. That wasn’t possible when I started in creating art.
Do you have any parting comments, or advice for other artists?
Keep on being creative!
And again, thank you for making me the Artist of the Month!!!
I always liked to draw Batman: The first one (above) is from 2006, the second (below) from 2014

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.
Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
