MtnMist
is the Renderosity members choice for the February, 2017, Artist of the Month.
MtnMist has been a member of Renderosity since 2007. She has over 120,000 views in her popular gallery. MtnMist is a skilled Poser artist with a flair for the female figure and fantasy scenes. Her gallery is filled with stylish images and provocative females that echo famous pin-up art and paperback cover art of the past. While she claims to be a "boring person", her interview and gallery clearly show she is not :-)
MtnMist was kind enough to take time out of her schedule and talk to Renderosity about her background, working methods and ideas about creating digital art. Be sure to visit her gallery at Renderosity and see more of her excellent work. The video (see below) features 10 images that were hand-picked by MtnMist especially for this interview.
Interview with Artist of the Month - curious3D
MtnMist: Here are some of the answers to your questions. I'll warn you ahead of time, I'm a very boring person. :)
First, I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me, I am truly honored!
Renderosity: What you are currently working on?
MtnMist: In addition to creating artwork images for a few individual vendors, I'm also part of a promo group on Facebook, Elite 3D Artists. The group does a tremendous amount of Genesis 3 vendor 3d content images but I only use Poser. I'm a diehard V4 fan and I'm really thankful that some of my favorite vendors are still creating for her.
Renderosity: Tell us a bit about your working process
MtnMist: I start the working process in Poser, sometimes I go in with a great idea and sometimes it's simply staring at the screen for a long time with no clue for a starting point. I've had more than a few of those 'great idea' images turn out absolutely awful and a few that I drew a solid blank on turn out the best. That's the way the process goes for most of us, I think.
Hoping for a Valentine's Dance invite by MtnMist
Renderosity: What tools do you use and how do you know a project is finished or do you do a lot of tinkering?
MtnMist: I use Poser Pro 14, Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop CS3. I have CS6 but some of my favorite plugins, like Rayflect Four Seasons and a few older AlienSkin, won't work in CS6 so I stick with CS3. I do a lot of tinkering with images, trying to set an atmosphere or mood but at times correct lighting is my nemesis and has many times caused major 'do over'. Major 'do over' is never fun but is always a learning experience for the next time, so I consider those the best combination of a headache and a plus.
After I get the character and/or scene completed in Poser I take it into Paint shop Pro where I can get a larger view and better zoom to a suspected problem spot in case it needs to be rendered again. From PSP I take it into Photoshop for whatever postwork may be required. When it's finished it goes to either a gallery or promo album.
Renderosity: Lastly, how has Renderosity impacted your life as an artist? Any advice for beginning vendors?
MtnMist: I joined Renderosity in 2007. I have no art background but saw images created in Poser and DS and was instantly interested in learning how to create with one of those programs. I bought Poser 7 but I didn't know anyone at all that used any of the 3d graphic programs or even knew what they were. I grew extremely frustrated trying to learn it and was about to throw it out but a kind lady that I'd met online, who'd used Poser since it came out, called me and walked me through it.
I was fascinated by what you could do and very shortly, I was hooked. I was very nervous when I uploaded my first image to the gallery but the artists here were so helpful, warm and welcoming, it's something I've never forgotten.
There is no community like artists, they share freely and willingly and are always available when you hit a brick wall, whether it's a wall of 'lost my muse' or a technical wall. They're there for you.
