When the sea went topless with the coming of the steamship the land waited then put on a forest of rotors. Grande amazement!!

A very interesting idea. I never realised California used windpower. One day I must visit my cousin in Napa Valley. What part of California is this ? Cheers Kenmo

Fantastic photo! We definitely need to find more ways of power! I think I have seen some of those windmills over there once when I did visit Calif. Very neat! Excellent

An amazing shot -- all the more so because it appears to be taken from the center lane :o) Keep up the good work.

How come you not driving in the fast lane always though you were a hot babe???? Well thay do look better than High Tension Towers still wouldn't want to see them in view of my back yard. Excellent capture though. Now switch lanes and put the pedel to the metal plases to go and people to see! "V" ( the concrete on that over pass has seen better days floor it just might collapse or is that grass growing on the sides there?????

You got It all wrong Evie, These are used to create the wind to cool off Santa Ana. Ever hear of the Santa Ana Winds? (hehehe) Super Pic Evie, seen these out by Palm Springs. This would drive Don Quixote nuts. Hope all went well for your trip this weekend. Come back with your shirt? Dave :^) V

okay here is the history its long so here we go: Wind Turbine Generators Increasingly popular as alternative sources of energy, wind turbine generators are a type of windmill that produces electricity by harnessing the wind. Wind turbine generators are much less harmful to the environment than burning fossil fuels, but they do require average wind speeds of at least 21 km/h (13 mph). The largest of these windmills stands 150 feet tall with blades half the legend of a football field. The compartments at the top containing the generator, hub and gearbox weigh 30,000 to 45,000 pounds. A wind turbine's cost can range upwards to $300,000 and can produce 300 kilowatts an hour - the amount of electricity used by a typical household in a month. Almost all of the currently installed wind electric generation capacity is in California. The high-tech megatowers are engineered in cooperation with NASA and nursed by federal and state subsidies. This wind farm on the San Gorgonio Mountain Pass in the San Bernadino Mountains contains more than 4000 separate windmills and provides enough electricity to power Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley. New World Power Technology Company North Wind 250 New World Power Technology Company North Wind 250 The North Wind 250 is an advanced technology, 250 kW wind turbine developed by the New World Power Technology Company under the DOE Wind Turbine Development Program. The two-bladed, upwind turbine uses aircraft-style aileron controls that deploy in high winds to smooth out energy spikes.

Here in the Midwest we have many of these power wind generators as well. What I thought was fascinating , is here our wind generators have three blades and in the Netherlands they have only have two blades :D Excellent shot !!!
