Description

The house at Achtri..Achtrioc...Achtriochtan at the bottom end of Glen coe, sits below the "Diamond Buttress" which hides the real top of the Bidean nam Bian range. ^^/\/\^^ The path makes it way up the righthand side of the waterfall, and provides some great views up Glen Coe and out to sea. ~@~ Sometimes the hardest part of hillwalking in Scotland is not the narrow ridges or the exposed climbs, its trying to pronounce their Gaelic names!

It was at Glen Coe that the Mac Donald clan was slaughtered by the Campbells. Robert Campbell was captain in the English army and in 1692 he got the orders to kill "them rebels MacDonald" at five in the morning, and to make shure the old fox and his son by no means would escape the slaughter. Many MacDonalds were killed in their sleep, mainly by English soldiers. Many more escaped because, even though Campbell and MacDonald weren't exactly friends, they were still both Highlanders. Since then, Glen Coe is also known as "the Glen of Weeping". Scottish history is a cruel history...

Ah I have to take this one home aangus!!! This is a cracker ! One of your best, really putting the perspective on things. Plus I love this natural waterfall... the rock must be fairly crystalline and hard not to allow for a deep soil profile or formation of larger streams down the mountainside. Distinctive Scots terrain... what I remember from my scotrail trip! Ach-tree-och-tan?

Excellent and moody shot, This is one of the most impressive shots of Glen Coe that I have ever seen, and an excellent show of scale. If you have problems with the names, how do you think I get on with them (Um I dont and cant)My accent just doesnt cut it either ha ha nothing I can do about that! "V"

This remote house and the waterfall scene behind it must be indelibly printed on my memory as I'd passed by in the car so many times. It brings back such memories. Thank you for the reminder!
