Description

Image created with the aid of HDRIShop, the lightgen plugin for it and liontamer's lightball10.exe script for converting ARNOLD files into a lightball of the HDRI.The auto was given to me by a friend upon a request for a nice, modern hi res model for use in tests such as ths as I model crappy cars myself, and the 2D people were harvested from the net somewhere. I did blur the background figure to match the .bmp of the HDRI which is spherically mapped to a sphere surrounding the whole scene, including lights.Comments welcome...thanx for stopping by....peace

this hdri was a panorama and was cut off half way down [pure black] so as not to create 'bottom lights. I don't really know how one would accomplish cubic mapping in Imagine as it doesn't seem to support it.Got a tip there..yes to your first comment...my primary direction is to get real world lighting into a scene that would in effect be a background i guess, but integrate my own landscapes and objects into it to take advantage of the lighting...seem the way IBL is done isn't it...in truespace the map can be chosen to show as an envbironment or not....pretty much like what i've been working on...guess i'm influenced by my proximity to the truespace manuals...LOL..i read em and urge my pal to try the stuff as i don't own or have even that version...got a free be but no IBL in that ver.Thanx for commenting and feel free to do a tute on cubic mapping...i'd love it

Yep. These kind of HDRI's are usually produced using a fish eye wide angle lens to capture as near to 180 degrees as possible, then the camera is pointed dirctly upwards, giving the upper panorama for IBL. As for cubic mapping, in HDRshop, use the panoramic transformations to convert to cubic mapping (vertical cross). Then create a simple 'cross' in Imagine with 6 squares. Map the cross HDRI to it, make sure it fits the object properly, then lock to that state. Then simply fold the Object up into a box and create another state. Done. You now have a cubic mapped HDRI environment instead of a spherical one. Not sure what you're referring to about turning off the HDRI's as an environment. In imagine, the HDRI and IBL fakes are totally independant of each other. Use one or the other or both however you like.

D'oh...thanx Lahl...must be sitting on my brain lately...sigh..tried spherically mapping it to a cube primative but it didnt match up and for some reason couldn't figger out the 'cross mapping with states' trick...sigh...well my brain cells are a bit older than yours so maybe they've been worn down a bit...LOL

Is it me, or are the people giants, or the car a mini? The perspective seems totally strange. It could just be my perspective on the thing!
