Description

"And now, my feathered friend, I'll give you the promised gift. For all those little things you and your people have given to me in exchange." "For just a few feathers?" the macaw asked. "'Just' a few feathers... oh well, make it 'just' a few feathers. I would be without protection in this weather, had you not given them to me. I would not be able to fly with your people. See?" "What will that be?" The bird eyed the growing ball of light in her hand. "As I said: a gift." She smiled impishly and observed the glowing thing. Her bird eyes mirrored it, as did those of the macaw who approached to inspect it. "I want you to spread this to as many of your friends as possible. To those with the crests, to those with the undulating stripes, to your family, to the red ones, the green ones and yellow ones. To all of them. It is not only for you!" "Ha! And how will you know I won't cheat?" He flew around her head. "I will know." she promised and raised her hands. Threads of light grew from the ball towards her fingertips. "And now hold still!" He obeyed. Then he experienced the brightest flash he had ever seen in his life. As he opened his eyes again, she was gone. And he was lying on the wet stone floor. She was gone. Flown away. "Gotta thick head", he mumbled and rolled over onto his feet. What had she done to him? Given him fermented berry juice? As he rose, water and dirt ran off his plumage as if wiped away by an unseen hand. He stared at his wings in amazement. A gift, she had said. The rain did not reach him and was reflected half a finger's breadth from his feathers. "Well, this is certainly something..."
