Description

Not had a lot of time for graphics lately, but managed to find an hour or two today to finish this one off. My vision of a foundered vessel trapped and crushed by pack ice. The doomed mariners have taken down the sails to protect them from the winter storms, but to no avail. None will bear witness as the spring thaw begins to open up the sea once more and slowly loosens the ice's grip on the hull - the once proud shell that has now become their communal coffin and is soon to carry them on its final voyage to the bottom of a cold, uncaring ocean. Modelled in Vue d'Esprit, using the excellent Goelette model by Alain Gracia, here retextured and slightly modified. (Sorry to have wrecked her first time I took her for a sail, Alain!) The falling snow effects were added in post using Paint Shop Pro.

Excellent scean and textures but I think the image needs more contrast.I know, contrast in a snow storm? Maybe a opening of super dark water in the foreground?

Thanks again folks! SmokeyK - I can fully understand why you might wish for more contrast and had I wished to include this your suggestion is a very good one; but it is not consistent with my intention for the image - I wanted deliberately low-key colour values to emphasise the cold and white-out effect. But it's all personal opinion, and as always I genuinely value comments both pro and con. :)

Fantastic lighting. Reminds me of E.A.Poe's Gordon Pim. The end of the book is like this in my imagination (and if my memory is ok ). All vanish in the mysterious 'great white being'. (Sorry for my poor english). Great scenery.

I like the blizzard scene. Nice work on integrating the boat. The snow looks particularly good in this scene. I like how the light reflects of the snow as well. Good work!
