Description

The sign in the aviary said it is not an owl. I can't believe it remained still while I snaped the shot. I was less than half a meter away.

Well, looks like an owl to me, but what do I know. Great close up. Love the eyes.

It's feathers look like bark from a tree! Kind of like a cross between an owl and a hawk...

Agree with David concerning the "wolfs' feathers". It's great how You captured the moment and managed to make the closeup!

I asked a friend of mine who knows a lot about birds, and he says this one is a Nictybius, possibly N. griseus, an insect-eating bird. Really looks like an owl but isn't... Sorry but I don't know the common name for the bird in english, so the scientific classification will have to do ;-)
