Description
After completing the British Long Land Musket, Pattern of 1742 (1st Model Brown Bess), the newer more efficient textures were applied to the older Queen Anne era martial musket to see if they would make the latter offerable in Free Stuff with sufficient texture quality for nice renders without the need to substitute in higher resolution textures. I think it worked.
The bottom musket is what is provided, and is depicted here as would typically be rendered in a scene with the darkening of the flint texture to taste in DAZ Surfaces and the darkening of the wood texture in Surfaces after a shift to Spectral Glossiness to apply a little more sheen. Bump was reduce a tad also. The 'factory' texture settings are deliberately left light to allow this, as it's easier to go darker than the reverse. Total time was a few clicks and a few seconds, with no 'outside' textures or mods. Rendering time was less than a minute on an old 1080ti.
The top musket is the same piece with my 'old school' practice of applying enhanced layered textures. This one uses the Dark Cathedral Walnut 59 from Rendernode which provides a rather fancy look, but as textures are perhaps my greatest rendering obsession, I had to give it a whirl. The flint too was treated to a texture boost from a mineral texture set available in DAZ from Dimension Theory. All were darkened and tweaked using SAZ sliders for taste and to accommodate the light in the HDRI.
The musket comes with a poseable lock and the ramrod loads seperately where it needs to be on the gun and can be parented to follow it about or left be for seperate posing. The original QA musket also has a wearable sling setting that is still being adjusted to work better in Auro Fit. Gen 9 wasn't even available when the QA was set up.
The matching QA 'plug' bayonet is already up in Free Stuff. The 'matching' contemporary English dragoon pistol is as well.
Is this old girl worth a try for free? I think so, but i'm obviuously biased on two counts - i love these old guns and the history behind them, and I love messing with the wonderful textures out there if I can find them. The goal was to create an historically accurate prop that could stand up to the best characters and clothing content for users willing to test its capabilities. A lot of time spent on detail few might recognize, but for those who appreciate the effort, it was well worth it.
The British Board of Ordnance Pattern of 1738 Heavy Dragoon Pistol should be next. Timelessly balanced and graceful for a horse pistol, they were still in service during the Napoleonic Wars...

Your textures are excellent!

Thanks 3D - the bottom example should be useable 'out od the box'.

For free? OMG... I'd love something like this! You did an amazing job on the textures - these are real beauties, and historically accurate as well!
I actually got to fire a flintlock at an outdoor gun show many years ago. It was a re-creation and not an actual antique, but it was still quite an experience.

Thanks Rod - I've been around trhese old girls most of my life. Never owned anything this old but did have a 1756 Long Land. My most interesting one was a British Model 1800 Infantry Rifle (the Baker) from the 3/95th Rifles that was captured at the Battle of New Orleans.
The bottom gun is what you'll get out of the box - just tweak the textures to taste in Surfaces. The iron, wood and brass are seperate. The top is what you can do if you havce a cache of texture sets. As noted in the write-upo, i love textures :)
