Description
~Nature Chrome~
A new take on Hajime Sorayama's sexy robots. The concept emerged in 1978, when a friend asked him to make a poster of Star Wars' C-3PO for a Santory presentation, time was short and there were issues with copyright fees, so he was asked to "come up with something". Being a pinup artist from high school and having a background in industrial design, he combined both things, giving birth to his iconic sexy gynoids. This is a testament to his innovative design and multi-disciplinary inspiration.

Thank you! His airbrush technique is without equal. I have an entire uncut sheet of his trading cards; it makes a great poster.

Thank you! Sorayama is also a very humble man. In an interview, he said he couldn't stop thanking whoever bought his paintings, and he almost cries when they do. Being humble is deeply ingrained into the Japanese culture, but not to the point he goes. He said he couldn't believe people bought his paintings (and still do), and that people have no idea how thankful he is. It's not easy being an artist, that much I know. ^____^

I have never heard of any artist become say that they have earned million pounds within their lifetime It is only after they die and can not make their art that people look at the work

That is true for most artists - even for Picasso and Van Gogh. But when it comes to Sorayama, he suddenly became famous worldwide with his improvised 1978 poster for a mere Santory corporate presentation - it was something revolutionary that took the world by storm. He even created giant gynoid robot statues for music shows and public events that attracted a large public in Europe. It's a timeless concept that will certainly outlive him. 🙂

I guess these kind of pinups had awakened my interest in the early 3D-techiques. But you couldn't do anything close to nowadays programs.
Great work!

Thank you! I remember Sorayama posters everywhere in the 1980s - he took the world by storm. He used to keep a Sorayama exposition at a museum in Japan, showcasing his diverse metallic sculptures of people and animals. I remember seeing a chromed T-Rex robot as well, in the classic Sorayama style. I believe he brought his exhibit to the US and Europe as well. If you like that style, seeing his live sized sculptures is a whole new experience. ^^

The first thing that went through my mind when I saw this was Sorayama's amazing 'Sexy Robots' paintings. You have done him superb justice with this awesome work, good sir! Wow!
Sorayama's work inspired me to pick up an airbrush for the first time - although there was never any comparison with his art and my amateurish efforts. I enjoyed playing with the airbrush (I still have a couple), I was rarely satisfied with my efforts.
