Description

There's nothing better than the open road, a hot car and a beautiful blond in a red bikini. This is 3DClassics' Austin Healey 100 model with a BRG iray paint job and tan leather seats. After a bit of conversation, I found that Alain (3DClassics) and I share a common interest in the two seaters of this time period. I was never fortunate enough to own one of these but my MX5 was inspired by this, the Lotus Elan and the MGs of this era. These were simple cars that had an extraordinary feel of the road. They were made to be driven. The 100 was named the 100 because it could do 100 mph. The top I ever had my MX5 up to was 112 mph and I was still 600 rpm below red line. I miss that car.

a lovingly created scene, the reflections, blowing hair and the stare at beauty behind the wheel really creates those nostalgic days; never been in a 100 but have driven lots of MX5s — would get another tomorrow if the wife would let me :)

Thanks for the comment. I handled that this way. We bought one for my wife as well. She had a white one and I had a red. When we would go on a vacation, she would have one daughter in hers and I would have the other in mine. Lots of fun cruising in the mountains in east Tennessee.

I do love the sense of freedom you gave in this image: riding alone during a sunny day with the wind in the hair... Exactly what I do love in my MG Midget...

Thanks for the comment. Now that my daughter's mobile home has arrived, I may have enough extra to purchase another two seater. Don't really need one but it is on my bucket list and I not getting any younger. I'd love to take one out to the Rocky Mountains for a month or two and just drive and take pictures.

Your render captures the moment perfectly! I most certainly agree with you...these cars were meant to be driven! I had a 1967 Triumph TR4A and I loved driving that car with top down early in the morning on twisty mountain roads! Great attention to detail in capturing the wind blowing through her hair! Excellent work and well done! :-)

Thanks for the comment. I live in middle Tennesses. "with top down early in the morning on twisty mountain roads" for 17 years that described my drive to work.

Excellent, really captures the feel of classic ragtop motoring at its best. ...Ofc don't forget Pininfarina's wonderful fiat 124 spider (we had one when i was a child) , which brought a touch of the exotic within the reach regular folks. Ironically, the new version is actually based on an MX5!

Thanks for the comment. Would never forget the Spider but my introduction to two seaters occurred in 1964, two years before the Spider 124 was put on the market. I didn't even know they were making them again and the new version certainly looks like a MX5 copy. I do remember wanting one, along with an MGB and a 57 Corvette. Couldn't afford any of them and ended up with a 10 year old Volvo sedan for my first car. I gutted that car, repainted it, rebuilt the engine during the summer that Woodstock happened. I lived 4 hours from where Woodstock was and remember listening to the reports of people trying to get there while I sanded on the Bondo filler I had used to fill the rust holes. Those were the days when you could strip down a car in your front yard and put it back together with hand tools. Now days you can't even change a headlight without having to tear down the whole front end.
