Description

This is a set for a scene in my comics, Days Gone. It will also be reused as the set for another comic, Princess of the Trees 2. (Nothing like using one scene for two projects to save a little time, eh?) But, while working on it, I kinda took a liking to it. I mean, there was just something clean and traditional about it, so I decided to complete the scene as a simple landscape. No weirdness, zombies or dragons. Just a cabin in the woods. Speaking of the woods, I must admit I was dreading them. I was very, very concerned that I wouldn't be able to get a good effect for the grass or the trees. Turns out I needn't have worried – I got almost instant results with the props I selected. All in all, I am very pleased with this simple illustration. EDIT (04-Jan-2020): I tried to update this, but for some reason I cannot seem to upload a new image, so I'm going to post it again.

I think it's safe to say it worked. ;-) Great looking and moody cartoon scape.

This illustration style came out really well for this charming landscape piece! I think that set has a lot of modeled foliage and grass (rather than using trans-maps on flat planes), and I wonder how much of a difference that makes when rendering in an illustration style?

I will contact you via PM, but you are correct. Most of this was modeled foliage and grass. However, the plant to the right in the foreground was transmapped to a billboard, and as you can see it did render perfectly using Poser Pro 11's Comic Book Preview feature. I was very leary of this, but it turns out that it works great so I will not shy away from billboards in the future (and since I'm about to start work on a comic set in a forest, I think billboards could save me some time and overhead – we'll see how it goes).
