Description

You know, the kind "boys make passes" at. One of my first Bryce scenes, it's a simple study of reflection and refraction in Coke-bottle glasses. Look at the reflection and you may see the camera, fill cards, and softboxes - although they didn't seem to soften the shadows one bit (sorry, that part's ugly!). Render took approx. 23 hours on my 333 MHz machine. I was hoping those days were over!

Great image. I just upgraded from a 200MHz to a 733, but I still need more RAM.

Very good idea! Please use a texture for the skin to make it look more natural. The glasses seem to hover over the nose, though. Keep it up!

When it comes to Bryce and its render engine... oh I dont even want to talk about it. Nice work but Duesentrieb is right about the glasses.

I may redo this picture and repost it. Yeah, I need to add those little plastic thingies that touch your nose. And lighten the shadows. And I'm kind of working on a good bump map for Vickie, so we'll see what happens when I can devote like 3 days or so to a rendering. :-) Reminds me of the days of trying to run POV-Ray on an 80286!

Love the glasses. What texture settings did you use for the lenses? I would be interested in that for when I use glasses!

First of all, the lenses are a boolean of... +thin sphere (front), +cylinder, -thin sphere (back). The material, I think, was "diamond" (for "high index" lenses)... I think I changed it to specularity of 0 since specular is fake (!!), reflection 5%, transparency 95%. Try that for starters.

What version of bryce are you running? In bryce 4 there is a render option tab where you can turn off 38 bit, change the antialiasing options or turn it off, change the spatial optimization or turn it off. So you can greatly reduce the render times if you want. I rendered a 3840 x 2880 image in under an hour on a Mac G4 400. Please ignore me if you knew all that... I feel your pain on the render time.

Yeah, I have since learned that the image quality differences between "normal" and "fine art" antialiasing are minor, but the "fine art" render time is like 10 times as long. Whew! BTW I am running Bryce 4.
