Description

Mark (anahata.c) and I were talking on the phone a week or so ago, and we got on the subject of "pictures I've never posted because they suck." I sent him ten or so, kind of at random, from my "not posted" file. He worked on them to see what he could coax out, but honestly, they really weren't very good pictures, and there wasn't a lot he could do. I mean ... he postworked them, and his vision of each shot was like a master class, but the basic pictures just weren't that good. On a couple of them he made an amazing improvement, this being one of them. So I went back to my original image and redid the postwork to come closer to Mark's vision of this shot. The one I had never posted was a lot more yellow, since the shot was taken indoors under incandescent lights. Mark took out the color, brightened the whites, and it made a big difference! So here is my second try at this shot. Before you ask, I didn't post Mark's version because it isn't my work, and I'm not that kind of girl! Thanks, Mark, for your inspiration and your help!

Where did you find an old penny-farthing? Odd looking bicycle but great for anyone with a death wish. Nice crop but the door on the right is a bit distracting.

Great shot and wonderful PW on it. He is an inspiration to all of us. Mark is amazing when it comes to camera/postwork as well as his writing. I can't wait to see what you post next

You have taken this from a great POV, and it is funny how different an image can be with help from another set of eyes.:)

Well, I think you took a great bit of inspiration from Mark and ran with it, Tara. This is quite lovely.

Hmmmm..... "pictures I've never posted because they suck." Jeeze..... I must have 3 hard drives, 25 blu-ray discs, a footlocker, two closets, a tractor-trailer, and a couple BNSF boxcars full of those. Perhaps I should do a bit of excavating.... 😆

Thank you for your very kind words, and for honoring me by putting up a transformation of my transformation. See, you did have a 'decisive moment' in these. (I thought a lot more of them than you did; they may not have been like that lake shot you posted for Jacomina, but they still had magic deep inside.) Anyway, your angle here---which is what I assume you wanted when you shot it---makes this a strange metallic web, or some strange spoked creature, brought out by the angle and the stark white. (My version had more colors in it, I think; this allows the abstract forms to speak more clearly.) And yeah, the door does add a certain necessary punctuation mark to it, which is why I assume you included it in the original. I loved playing with your way of seeing things, and I was thrilled when you shared our talk with your fans. One of these days soon I'll pile some so-so's on you, and you can see how it feels, lol. Only mine really won't have ANY decisive moment, and we'll see what you do with them...

I love the perspective. And for some of us the "penny-farthing" is of some symbolic significance.

Well, I'm going to say it if no one else has.. "I am not a number!".
