Description

This is an eroded specimen of Aporrhais occidentalis the Common Pelican's Foot. Quite a few on the beach at Bournemouth most years. I made a shell abstract from another view of this Here

A beautiful capture of a shell; and the red background, as well as the deep shadows and repeated 'caverns' (as we go up the spiral) make it feel like a sacred object. Or a prized relic, in a museum. The background is really fine for this shape. Really a beautiful shell capture, really finely done. And the purples in the shadows are very appealing too. Your digifiddle: I saw it when it went up and am about to comment on it now. (Again, I'm skipping around to get a good sampling, not because any image I skip is any less compelling to me. If I only wrote shorter comments, I could do everything; but I don't...) Last thought: You call this "Shell". I'm always struck at how titles can change people's perceptions of an image. If you called this "Fear" or "Thought," I can picture people pouring over it and thinking "what's the connection..." (Perfumes use titles like that.) Not a terribly interesting point, but it came to mind...

It amazes me how the tide and abrasive sand can grind down the shell over time.

Superb capture! It has had it's natural polishing as well as erosion. I bet it feels so smooth!
