Description

Hi All I was about 30 metres from this giraffe when I took the photo. I was so scared as at that moment I thought he will run, but he stood his ground and just looked at me. He is a huge bull and when I took the picture I thought I should actually research if a giraffe ever killed a human, and there are in fact 2 or 3 such documented incidents. They have a powerful kick and I could see this particular giraffe was not afraid of me at all. So I didn't go closer... Hope you enjoy it and will post a picture of a baby tomorrow. :) Regards Colene

The bird is actually a Redbilled Oxpecker and they were reintroduced into this area a few years ago. Many died due to the high volumes of tick poison the farmers used and/or the fact there was simply not enough ticks for them to eat anymore. They love to sit on rhinos and are in Afrikaans called the "Rooibek Renostervoeltjie".
