how kind of you to celebrate our 4th with this amazing image. I was never a big fan of the holiday, myself, because it becomes an occasion for nationalistic feelings which I have troubles with. But at heart, it's a sweet, innocent and playful holiday, more about mid summer than about nations and such. And it should be about freedom, after all, which is universal, not just American. The image is amazing: I'd never seen it! I don't know exactly which building this was housed in---the pic says "Medinah Building" and that could be the Medinah Temple. None of which really matters, lol, esp if you've not been to Chicago...But it sure was curious to see Chicago mentioned here! In any case, I know that the Statue of Liberty represented a new way of life to the countless people who came here, esp around the time of this photo---the turn of the last century. I come from Eastern European stock, who came here around that time; and my paternal grandfather, in fact, was held up at Ellis Island, waiting forever while a member of his family found him & took him into the country. So it's fitting that you posted this image for our 4th. An amazing image, made by all those soldiers...And I see how much I missed in the many months I was gone. I'll be back for more, Mary, your gallery is always such a pleasure; but thank you for coming to my gallery, and remembering me. It's always an honor to have your presence in my gallery, given how fine an artist you are.
