Description

Not exactly an original title, is it? Here, once again, is your classic Adventuring foursome: Ranger, Mage, Warrior, and Rogue. Looks like they're out for a late night stroll, and given how clean and un-bloodied they are, they haven't found the dungeon entrance yet. This image has a bit of a history. Some time ago, Roxy (brewgirlca) challenged us to take an old render and re-visit it to show how much we've learned and to demonstrate how much we've improved. The image she chose to re-do really highlighted the dramatic improvement in her skills as an artist during the interval. In response, I chose my "The Challenge" image, and spent a week working on it. I used the same four characters, but this time I made them Human rather than Elven, and gave them new costumes and a new setting. In the end I came to the sad realization that I haven't really improved at all in the last couple of years. (Time to get busy and start learning some new stuff!) Anyway, while working on the challenge, I accidentally did a test render in low light and the idea for this image was born. At the time, I shelved the work in a fit of pique, but I recently came across it while rummaging about on my hard drive, and decided it was not that bad. Hope you like it. And you know why because we are our own worse critique, i have just gone back over your gallery for instance go to the battle, look at that and look at this, i think you have come a long way look at your lighting for instance, posing, composition, its superb, the different outfits the textures pop look at the shine on the armor and it all blends together perfect !!

It is definitely not bad at all. I particularly like the armor on the warrior, as well as the moon-like glow of the lighting. I can clearly picture the all-female group going out on a midnight quest, ready for trouble.

I like it! Makes me wish I had time to fire up an AD&D game, even if only a PC game version :) Night time lighting can be a tough thing sometimes. I too have to work on that area. Nice work :) It is true, often when we're trying to improve our render skills and learn new ones, its like climbing a steep hill. Then once mastered, we reach and sit atop a plateau for a while, enjoying and putting to use the hard won experience. And don't worry, there will always be a new slope to climb, and a new plateau to reach. :)

Ranger, Mage, Warrior, and Rogue, they all look marvelous to me! All you have to do is to make stories, like Roxy do. You have all the neccessary skills! The nighttime light is extremly skillful done.
