Description

So, here we are again. This is the revised version of "Dragon's Dawn" which is a result of the comments posted on the original piece regarding the composition. My thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I felt that extending the piece to the left was the answer. Honestly, somewhere in the back of my I kept wanting to extend the piece to the left, but I think I was being stubborn and trying to 'fix' it within the window that I had already established. I also reverted to my original wing pose and re-sculpted the terrain a bit. I added the Pinus Mungo tree on the left to give some visual interest to that part of the scene, then decided to replace the old, dead tree on the right with another Pinus Mungo to tie things back together. I played with the orientation of the cloud-scape a bit to fine-tune the balance and added the moon to the scene just to give that area a bit of a focal point. Hopefully it's not too busy. I had considered taking down the earlier image, but I'm going to let it stand in case someone can take away some learning from how the composition was improved. I'll also refer you to the earlier image for details on the products and elements used ihn this one, except to say that the Pinus Mungo is an excellent tree available from Cornucopia3D. thumb_1994248.jpg Thanks to everyone who commented on the previous image.

Very nice. I like this too. The other version as stated cry "Fantasy Book Cover" Which is great by all accounts. Looking at the close up this cried realism (as far a dragons go) The environment is awesome and there is a lot of detail even in the rock formation.

Vey nice! I love the background clouds and the color. But rule of thirds or not, I think the dragon needs to be closer to the center. Or the image needs to be cropped a bit. (I think it's because the tower is thirded, not the dragon)

Oooo, I like the long view of this scene. Really nice. I'm not sure which version I like better. Both have their merits.

i like both. i think the space to the left is good, but the dominance of the dragon in the other is good, too. i think i like the light on the other a little better, but i also like the shadow this light produces on the interior of the tower. the only thing that strikes me about this one is the same issue i had with the previous one. it seems so low contrast that it made me feel like something is wrong with either my eyes or my monitor. that said, that's what happens at dawn and dusk, (incidentally making them the most dangerous times to drive). i like how you've managed to combine purple, rose and green and not have it look at all garish. nature achieves this easily, but it's no mean feat for a human.

I love both versions, but I think this is better balanced - the dragon seemed to be falling backwards in the previous image. The lighting is spot on - dawn/dusk is not only the most dangerous time to drive, but also the most dangerous time to meet a ticked-off dragon...
